PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

.1 Site Verification of Conditions: Verify that site conditions are acceptable for installation of domestic water piping. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PIPING INSTALLATION

.1 Install CPVC products in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and technical manuals, approved submittals, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.1. Inspect all products prior to installation.2. Never install products that are damaged.3. Always use proper ventilation when applying primers and solvent cements.4. Do not solvent weld near open flames or soldering torches.5. Do not solvent weld joints when pipe, fitting, valve or installation temperatures

are less than 40 degrees F (5 degrees C).

.2 Prior to installation, installers shall be trained by a qualified manufacturer’s representative on the installation and handling of CPVC products.

.3 Install in accordance with the requirements of the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) and the local plumbing Authority Having Jurisdiction.

.4 CPVC Pipe Joints to dissimilar materials1. Join dissimilar pipe materials with CPVC transition fittings; bronze threaded

adapters, flanges, or full-pressure flange kits.2. Use PTFE tape only when connecting to bronze threaded adapters.

.5 Penetrations through structure shall be such that structural loads are not transferred to pipes.

.6 Provide support of pipe in accordance with requirements of the local plumbing Authority Having Jurisdiction, the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC), and the manufacturer’s recommendations.

.7 It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure that all CPVC piping is installed with adequate expansion loops, offsets, and changes in direction, so that the piping and equipment will in no way be strained or distorted by expansion and contraction due

< PROJECT # > < PROJECT NAME > < DATE >

to changes in service temperatures. 1. Consult Engineer of Record for details regarding expansion and contraction

accommodation specific to this project.2. Consult pipe manufacturer for general guidelines regarding expansion and

contraction accommodation.

.8 The need for external pipe insulation shall be determined by the requirements of the local Plumbing or Energy Code and the Engineer of Record. 1. External pipe insulation must always be chemically compatible with the piping

material.

.9 Provide fire-stop systems for all piping, at all penetrations through fire-rated separations tested and listed in accordance with CAN/ULC-S115.1. Fire-stop products must always be chemically compatible with the piping

material.

3.3 VALVE INSTALLATION

.1 Install products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, approved submittals, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.1. Valves in horizontal piping to have stems at or above pipe center.2. Valves to be positioned allowing full stem movement.3. Valves with threaded connections to have unions at each piece of equipment.

.1 Arrange to allow easy access, service, maintenance, and equipment removal without system shutdown. Provide separate support where necessary.

4. Valve tags and signage:.1 Comply with Division 22 “Identification for Plumbing Piping and

Equipment" for valve tags, schedules and signs on surfaces concealing valves.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

.1 Installer shall consult with manufacturer’s technical manuals and installation instructions for guidance on support spacing, accommodation of expansion/contraction and proper solvent welding procedure.

3.5 TESTING

.1 Test per authorities having jurisdiction to a maximum pressure of the lowest pressure-rated piping component or appurtenance in the system.

.2 Pressure test underground piping systems before backfilling in accordance with requirements of the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) and the local plumbing Authority Having Jurisdiction.

.3 Pressure test aboveground piping systems in accordance with requirements of the National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) and the local plumbing Authority Having Jurisdiction.

.4 CPVC Piping Tests: After all solvent welded joints in the section to be tested have been allowed to cure fully per the manufacturer’s recommendations, fill and pressurize pipeline to test pressure a minimum of 24 hours before testing.1. Use potable water only.

< PROJECT # > < PROJECT NAME > < DATE >

.5 CPVC Hydrostatic Testing, Single-Wall Pressure Piping:1. Hydrostatic testing shall be performed in accordance with manufacturer’s

recommendations.2. Test Pressure: One-and-one-half times (1.5x) the working pressure up to the

maximum pressure of the lowest pressure-rated piping component or appurtenance in the system.DO NOT test with compressed air or other gases.DO NOT test with air-over-water..1 Fully inspect installed piping for evidence of mechanical abuse and/or

suspect joints..2 Slowly fill the pipe section with water, at a velocity of 1.0 ft/s (0.3 m/s)

or less..3 Any entrapped air must be evacuated by venting from the high points.

Do not pressurize at this stage..4 Leave the section for at least one (1) hour to allow equilibrium

temperature to be achieved..5 Visually check the test section for leaks. If clear, check for and remove

any remaining air, and increase pressure up to 50 psi. Do not pressurize further at this stage.

.6 Leave section pressurized for 10 minutes..1 If the pressure drops, inspect for leaks..2 If the pressure remains constant, slowly increase the hydrostatic

pressure to one-and-one-half times (1.5x) the nominal working pressure up to the maximum pressure of the lowest pressure-rated piping component or appurtenance in the system.

.7 Leave the section pressurized for a period not exceeding 1 hour. During this time, the pressure should remain constant..1 If there is a significant drop in static pressure or extended times

are required to achieve pressure, either joint leakage has occurred or air remains in the line..1 Inspect for leakage and if none is apparent, reduce the

pressure and check for trapped air..1 Trapped air must be removed before further testing..2 Repair joint leaks and allow to cure fully before re-

pressurizing.

.6 Prepare test and inspection reports.

3.6 IDENTIFICATION

.1 Comply with requirements for identification specified in Division 22 “Identification for Plumbing Piping and Equipment”.

3.7 PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION

.1 Affix applicable label with directional arrows in accordance with in Division 22 “Identification for Plumbing Piping and Equipment”.

.2 Provide copies of test reports for Commissioning Manuals.

.3 Provide copies of Inspection Reports from the local plumbing Authority Having Jurisdiction.
