T he IP telephony landscape is an ever evolving beast, but it’s currently a market which is booming in the UK. The improvements in connectivity over

the last five years has made IP an easy choice for many businesses due to its flexibility and cost effectiveness. With over 90 providers in the UK there is unprecedented choice for partners which has created an incredibly competitive space. Amid the large scale consolidation in the market we will look to take stock of the market and clarify exactly where partners should be looking to gain maximum value in selling IP telephony.

TechnologyWe will be excepting comment and conducting interviews about latest developments in technology which are impacting the IP Telephony market which will cover a number of areas including:

End user demands – What are end users actually asking for when it comes to the technology? Are all feature sets born equal?

Feature trends – What kind of new features are making their way into hosted solutions and

why does this matter for partners? What kind of development cycles are Channel suppliers managing to sustain to enable new features to come to market for partners?

Price vs features – How do partners sell on feature sets and functionality when so many customers are price driven? How do you push customers out of the ‘price-first’ mentality so they focus on the bigger picture?

End Points, why they matter – Does your service give you the flexibility you need to use the endpoints that your customers need? We will look at a variety of popular options the Channel are currently selling from the bargain basement handsets to the premium end of the market.

Pick n’mix Services – Can you construct the end to end service you really want to? From the connectivity to the end point your flexibility could be your biggest asset. We will be asking providers and partners what they want from a pick and choose solution. Does this really give partners more flexibility and provide more margin opportunities?

Market MovementsWe will be seeking comment from analysts and those top companies in the market which drive big industry changes. We will be asking those important ‘market-makers’ about adoption trends versus traditional telephony and what is driving

those changes. Is ISDN end of life still a major driver for the

march towards hosted telephony? Is the Broadsoft acquisition a major threat for

the service provider community? How much of the market is still left to play for

and where are the major threats coming from for this wave of adoption?

DifferentiationIn a sea of products which appear to do the same thing how can partners differentiate themselves enough to make themselves stand out? In this section we will look to dissect the value-add for partners and look at the factors they should consider on this front before choosing a supplier.

Service and support – is this the holy grail of differentiation? The support partner’s offer to customers can vary widely. Is this the battlefield partners need to focus on to make their offering stand above the crowd?

The importance of a multi-vendor strategy – Do you have the right portfolio to ensure you win more than your fair share of deals? What advice do Channel suppliers have for partners wishing to construct an unbeatable portfolio?

Channel FocusVendors and Channel suppliers alike can have a different view to those selling IP services to

businesses directly. In this section we will seek comment from those resellers in the market who are successfully selling the technology. We will ask them the following:

What makes your offering different? What are you biggest challenges in the market

at present?Where do you make your biggest margins in

the IP telephony offering? What are the biggest considerations for your

business in choosing an IP solution to on-board?

The Matrix – Do your providers stack up?The supplement will include a supplier matrix which will compare several of the key providers in the market across a number of fronts. Do you know how your vendors stack up against others you aren’t currently selling?
