    THE RECORDS - - Iowa (5-1, 2-0) opened the season with winsover Northern Iowa (31-23) and Ball State (17-13) before a 20-17last-second loss to Iowa State, all at home. The Hawkeyes ralliedfor a 24-20 win at Pi sburgh to close nonconference ac on. InBig Ten play Iowa won 24-10 win at Purdue and defeated Indiana45-29 in Iowa City.

    Maryland (4-2, 1-1) was idle last weekend. The Terrapins havewins over James Madison (52-7), South Florida (24-17), Syracuse(34-20) and Indiana (37-15), with losses at the hands of WestVirginia (40-27) and Ohio State (52-24).

    THE SERIES - - Iowa and Maryland have never met on thefootball eld, as the Terrapins are in their rst year in the Big TenConference.

    COACHING RECORDS - - Kirk Ferentz is in his 19th year as acollege head coach and his 16th year as Iowas head coach. Hiscareer record is 125-101 and he is 113-80 at Iowa. He is the 12thBig Ten Conference coach to win 100 games. His Big Ten recordis 66-56. Ferentz is ed for ninth in Big Ten history in total winsand conference victories.

    Randy Edsall is in his fourth season as Marylands head coachand his 16th year overall as a college head coach. His career markstands at 91-96 and he is 17-26 at Maryland. He previously wasthe head coach at Connec cut (1999-2010). He has been an as-sistant coach at Georgia Tech, Boston College and Syracuse, andJacksonville of the NFL.

    NEXT GAME - - Iowa is idle on Oct. 25, the second open weekendfor the Hawkeyes in October. Iowa returns home to host North-western on Nov. 1. Maryland travels to Wisconsin on Oct. 25.

    IOWA/MARYLAND NOTES Saturday is the rst ever football game between the two schools. Iowa has won four straight and six of its last seven on the road. Iowa and Maryland have bene ed from opponents penal es more than any

    other schools. Iowas opponents have been agged for an average of 72.0penalty yards per game; Marylands opponents have been agged for 61.8yards per game. Those numbers rank 1-2, respec vely, in the Big Ten.

    Iowa has eight intercep ons this season, ed for fourth most in the Big Ten.

    Maryland has thrown eight intercep ons this season, the second-highest totalin the conference. Maryland allows 212.0 rushing yards per game, ranking 13th in the Big Ten.

    Iowas rushing yards have increased in ve straight games, including a season-high 207 rushing yards against Indiana on Oct. 11.

    DT Louis Trinca-Pasat (39) and Maryland DL Andre Malone (36) rank rst andsecond, respec vely, in tackles among Big Ten linemen.

    @HawkeyeFootball NOTES Iowa is one win from securing bowl eligibility for the 13th me in the last 14 sea-

    sons. Iowa is 2-0 in conference play for the h me under Kirk Ferentz (2002, 2009,

    2010, 2012, 2014). Since 1999, Iowa started 3-0 in the Big Ten in 2009 (5-0) and2002 (8-0).

    Iowa is 5-1 for the second straight year and sixth me since 1999. The last meIowa won six of its rst seven games was 2009 when it started 9-0. Since 1999,the only other me Iowa won six of its rst seven games was 2002 (started 11-1,

    nished 11-2). Iowa has won four straight and six of its last seven on the road. The Hawkeyes

    have won four consecu ve road games, da ng back to last season, for the rstme since 2009, when they won their rst four road games of the season.

    Iowa has won six road games since the start of the 2013 season, which e for theseventh most in the country during that span.

    Iowa has recorded an intercep on on its opponents nal drive in four games thisseason (CB Greg Mabin vs. UNI; FS Anthony Gair at Pi ; SS John Lowdermilk aPurdue; FS Jordan Lomax vs. Indiana).

    Iowa has had an intercep on return for a touchdown in each of the last sevenseasons and 12 of the last 14 seasons. CB Desmond King returned an intercep onfor a touchdown (35 yards) against Indiana on Oct. 11.

    The Hawkeyes are allowing only 94.0 passing yards per game in Big Ten games,the best in the conference.

    Iowa ranks No. 2 in total defense (294.0 ypg) in conference games only. The Hawkeyes are the least penalized team in the Big Ten (22 penal es, 29.8 ypg). Sixteen Hawkeyes have caught at least one pass this season (seven backs, six

    WR Kevonte Mar n-Manley leads Iowa with 29 recep ons. He ranks No. 5 in schoolhistory with 151 career recep ons. He needs 23 catches to break Iowas all- merecep ons record (Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, 173). Mar n-Manley ranks No. 17with 1,527 receiving yards.

    IOWA PROGRAM NOTES Iowa has 102 wins since 2002. Only 22 programs across

    the country have 100 or more wins since the start of the2002 season.

    Iowa earned Big Ten Conference championships in 2002and 2004 and placed second in 2009. Iowa (8-0, 2002)is one of three Big Ten teams to post a perfect mark inconference play since 1998 (BCS era).

    Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the nal Associated Pressand CNN/USA Today coaches polls in four of the past 11seasons, including a ranking of seventh in both polls atthe conclusion of the 2009 season. Iowa ranked eighthin 2002, 2003 and 2004 and the Hawkeyes were also 20thin 2008.

    Iowa established a school record with 11 wins in 2002(11-2) and matched that record in 2009. In 2009, Iowastarted 9-0 and won 10 regular season games for just the

    fourth me in school history. Iowa won 10 or more games in three consecu ve years(2002-04) for the rst me in school history.

    Kirk Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Yearthree mes (2002, 2004 & 2009) and he was named Na-

    onal Coach of the Year in 2002. Ferentz joins MichigansBo Schembechler (four), Iowas Hayden Fry (three) andPenn States Joe Paterno (three) as the only coaches tobe honored in more than two seasons.

    Iowa has appeared in the nal Associated Press poll 22mes in program history, a total that ranks 25th-best in

    the country. Iowas football record in the 2000 decade was 80-45 (.640),

    a record that ranks as the best decade in Iowa football his-tory, based on total wins. Iowa posted a record of 77-40-4(.652) during the 1980s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2(.538) in the 1990s.

    Part of the Hawkeyes long term success is due to the sta-bility in the program. Iowa has had just two head coachessince 1979. Hayden Fry took over prior to the 1979 seasonand coached through the 1998 season, pos ng a record of143-89-6. Current coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry, lead-ing the program for the last 15-plus seasons. Ferentz alsoserved as Iowas o ensive line coach from 1981-89 underFry.
