President’s Report -
Just to introduce myself. I am Mark Porter your new AFGC President. I have a family of five, all of which are active members of our club. This will be my third year as President. I feel this year is going to be the most exciting one!
I would like to start and say thank you to last years board, lead by Nathan Anderson. You guys did an awesome job! Thank you for laying down the ground work for this year’s Ex-ecutive. I also want to thank you the membership, for the awesome turn out at our recent AGM. We had a packed house! Thank you very much for all your support.
Our goal this year is to get our range expansion and renovations started. Our board of executive is united and ready to take this project on. We have in place a “New Range Committee” which will be able to stream line the progression of this project. I would like to thank all our volunteers for stepping up and taking on this role. I trust we’ll see the fruits of your labors.
I also want to put out a reminder of our 3rd
Annual AFGC Open House this July. This is an awesome event, one you don’t want to miss! There will be lots of activities offered. This is a great way to reach out to your friends, to get them involved in the shooting and fishing sports we love. If you are wanting to get involved by donating your time and experiences, please give me a call.
Have a great spring bear season! Shoot straight and keep safe.
Cheers,
Mark Porter AFGC President

Well, spring has come and the range has been bustling with activity. We have seen some very busy times on the outdoor range on the weekends recently, thus making the upcoming range expansion an exciting time for all members.
The Sea Cadets had a weekend range competition in March, with a number of cadet cores involved. Thanks to LS Makar, LS Sidhu along with their leaders, Derek Bailey, Ben Kim and many volunteers for an tremendously well organized and successful weekend. It was a privilege to work with you.

Fishing Report
“ April days can be as cold and wet and miserable with wind as December days. April rivers can
be swollen and thick with flood. But April is still as beautiful as its name, the true spring month that breaks our world out of winter into something nearly summer. It could not be right to keep anglers away from their rivers at such a time , and I think they are seldom kept away , unless by the ice of a high altitude or a late year. “
BY RODERICK HAIG- BROWN
April should provide us with some very good steelhead fishing in the Vedder. There have been good numbers of fish going through the canal area and should be throughout the river now. The fishing pres-sure is some what lower this month as some people are gardening and have other interests.
This is also the time of year to start fishing kokanee in the Kawkawa Lake at Hope and to venture to the Fraser back waters in search of cutthroat. Check with your local tackle stores before heading out as you can get lots of valuable free information.
Just a few reminders for everyone: New fishing licenses as of April 1st and can buy on line at:
www.Fishing.gov.bc.ca
Do you have your Pleasure Craft Operator Card (all persons operating powered pleasure vessels less than 13 feet are required by law to carry a card.)
Cards Online – www.basic boating.com or 1-800-474-5210
Do not forget July 10/10 AFGC open house and fishing for rainbows. Lorne and myself are getting the fish pond booked, fireman to fill pond , prizes for our new fishermen and gals so please plan to bring your children and grandchildren for this event.
Fishing chairman,
Ross Gordon
Fish Fact:
One study of 20,000 men found that simply eat-ing fish once a week slashes the risk of sudden cardiac death in half. Another study found that dining on fish just once or twice per month provides similar protection against Strokes! Canada’s Food Guide recommends eating at least two servings of fish each week.
