• Working actively to counter the trafficking in persons since 1997: – Implemented almost 500 projects in 85 countries;– Provided direct assistance to several thousand trafficked persons.

• Wide range of activities implemented in partnership with:– Governmental institutions;– NGOs;– International organizations. 

• Through implementation and management of the IOM victim‐centred Global Human Trafficking Database, the Organization has gained extensive experience collecting information on human trafficking.

Global Assistance FundWhat is it?

Global referral, assessment & rapid assistance mechanism for trafficked persons

Eligibility? 1. Must be identified as a victim of 

trafficking.2. Identified anywhere except 

Australia, Europe, Japan, N. America,  New Zealand.

3. Beneficiary can not be eligible for assistance under a similar regional programs. 

What does it include?Emergency and short term assistance, including shelter, medical, psychosocial, and legal assistance, voluntary return and/or reintegration support.

Assisted approx. 565 trafficked persons since its creation in Aug. 2000.

All GAF-assisted case data are inputted into the Global CounterGlobal Counter--Trafficking DatabaseTrafficking Database.

Global Counter-Trafficking DatabaseScope:

Is currently accessible to all IOM missionsContains primary data on approx. 15,00015,000 trafficked persons

Two Purposes:1. Case Management ‐ serves to collect information & monitor IOM’s assistance 

to trafficked persons.2. Research – strengthens understanding of the causes, processes, trends & 

consequences of trafficking.

How is data collected?1. Screening Interview Form –

assesses eligibility for assistance through one of IOM’s counter-trafficking projects.

2. Assistance Interview Form –includes more in-depth information on the assistance delivered.
