Repatriation Assistance to Stranded Migrants During the reporting period IOM successfully repatriated 50

stranded migrants from Afghanistan (2) Bangladesh (4) Egypt (1) Ethiopia (6) Morocco (1) and Sudan (36) In ad-

dition IOM is currently making arrangements to repatriate 226 stranded migrants from Argentina (5) Burkina Faso

(4) Cuba (5) Ethiopia (12) Indonesia (50) Libya (4) Philippines (59) Sri Lanka (1) South Sudan (20) and Sudan (66)

to travel via Beirut To date IOM has provided repatriation assistance to 3478 stranded migrants

Resettlement of Refugees During the current reporting period IOM transported 159 refugees (85 women 74

men) including 33 children from Damascus who transited through Lebanon and departed for resettlement locations

in Australia (71) Canada (21) Sweden (1) and the United States (66) IOM is finalizing travel arrangements for 549

resettlement cases scheduled to depart between 19 June and 24 July Refugees who form part of this caseload will

travel to Australia (365) Canada (50) New Zealand (45) Romania (47) and United States of America (42) IOM has

provided resettlement assistance to 13334 refugees since the beginning of the Syria Crisis

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) On 13 June 15 agencies participated in the first IASC Technical

Reference Group for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support meeting where IOM gave a presentation on the ori-

gins tools and practices of the IASC guidelines IOM facilitated the establishment of the reference group and is the

co-chair together with UNHCR and IMC

On 16 June IOM met with the Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) to discuss collaboration on MHPSS

Training for frontline workers and other psychosocial specialized trainings IOM also met with the Syria Trust for

Development (STD) on 18 June to discuss the collaboration on psychosocial activities (modifying the MHPSS manual

to train shelter managers in Damascus Rural Damascus Aleppo and Homs)

Jordan Operations

Emergency Transportation of Refugees The number of Syrian refugees crossing into Jordan

increased to 3070 refugees compared to 2981 refugees who arrived in the previous week - an

average of 439 refugees transported per day During the current reporting period IOM facilitat-

ed the transportation of 3044 Syrian refugees to Zarsquoatri camp and 26 Syrian refugees to Emir-

ates Jordanian Camp (EJC) IOM also distributed basic hygiene kits and shoes to the 3044 newly arrived refugees in

Zarsquoatri camp To date IOM has facilitated the transportation of 318165 Syrians from border areas (Thnebe) to

Zarsquoatri and EJC camps

Emergency Health Assistance upon Arrival in Jordan During

the reporting period IOM assisted 33 individuals with medi-

cal conditions requiring immediate referral or treatment at

Zarsquoatri Camp health clinics Since 29 July IOM has assisted

3046 individuals for further treatment upon arrival at the

camp

Tuberculosis (TB) Diagnosis and Prevention Activities An

IOM team works daily within the camp to investigate sus-

pected TB cases and to provide follow-up and direct observa-

tion of treatment During the past week IOMrsquos medical team

in Zarsquoatri camp confirmed one new TB case and is providing

follow-up treatment for the case Since March 2012 IOM has

treated 57 cases of TB screened 289582 Syrians for TB and

provided TB awareness-raising activities to 88687 Syrians in

the camp transit centres and host communities in Jordan

Immunizations of New Arrivals IOM has expanded its health activities in Jordan to include the immunization of

newly arrived refugees in an effort to mitigate the potential of an outbreak of a polio or measles epidemic On 16

April IOMrsquos medical team started an immunization campaign against measles and polio in addition to providing

Vitamin A supplements in Zarsquoatri camp As of 17 June IOM has vaccinated 44280 Syrian refugees 10149 were vac-

cinated against polio 34131 against measles and provided 9458 refugees with Vitamin A supplements

ed NFI kits to 413 extremely vulnerable Syrian households

(2066 individuals) living in Al Qaim (280) Aanna (83) and

Rawa (50) in Anbar governorate The households were iden-

tified through the vulnerability assessments conducted in

Erbil in April 2013 The kits distributed to each household

included mattresses pillows hygiene items house cleaning

items rechargeable fans and lights a gas cooker and jerry

cans IOM plans to distribute an additional 100 kits in Erbil

and 50 kits in Sulaymaniyah next week

Vulnerability Assessments From 10 to 13 June IOM con-

ducted vulnerability assessments of 19 Syrian refugee families (123 individuals) in Ninewa governorate (Mosul City)

in coordination with local council and community leaders These assessments will identify the most vulnerable

families who are eligible to receive NFI assistance Key findings include

Many of the families are new arrivals to Mosul

Almost half of the families are female-headed households

The majority of the families are receiving food from the Syrian Relief Association in Mosul

Around half of the families are registered with UNHCR

The families are living in rented houses and report low living standards

The families report no fixed source of income and are lacking basic non-food items

Three quarters of the families report a family member suffering from a disability or a chronic disorder

were accepted for resettlement to transit

through Lebanon The caseload included 65

female and 64 male refugees (30 of whom

were children) IOM provided the refugees with medical escorts

for those who require regular monitoring as they have chronic dis-

eases such as severe hypertension diabetes heart palpita-

tions Since February 2013 IOM has provided transit assistance to

2877 refugees leaving Syria

Profiling of Lebanese Returnees On 18 June IOM Iraq Infor-

mation Management experts arrived in Beirut to design question-

naires and set up a database as part of the second phase of the

Returnee Profiling project in cooperation with the High Relief Com-

Commission (HRC) The project will assist the Government and partners to meet the needs of this vulnerable group

of migrants who have fallen through the assistance gap since returning to Lebanon

Shelter Assessment to Southern Lebanon On 17 June IOM conducted a visit to Sarafand in order to meet the

shelter land owner negotiate the rental cost and review the existing structure It was decided that IOM and a spe-

cialized engineer will check the cost of rehabilitation of this shelter before making the final decision

NFI Distribution On 17 June IOM purchased around 1000 NFI kits (each kit contains hygiene dignity and baby

items) that will be distributed to 1000 vulnerable Syrian families in Zahrani IOM plans to distribute NFIs to 250

Syrian vulnerable families in Akeybeh and Sarafand in the coming days To date IOM has provided NFIs to 86931

beneficiaries since the start of the crisis

Turkey Operations

Field Mission to Adiyaman Camp On 13 June IOM conducted a field mission to Adiyaman

province to assess the situation before implementing the transportation pilot project in the

camp The Adiyaman camp is hosting 10000 Syrians and the transportation services will be

offered to those referred to hospitals or need to reach social services outside the camp IOM

staff will be deployed to the camp and additional staff will be recruited to support the Disaster and Emergency

Management Presidency (AFAD) and local authorities in providing safe transport services to health and social ser-

vices

Provision of IT Equipment On 17 June IOM met with AFAD to follow up on the provision and installation of very

small aperture terminal (VSAT) equipment in the camps IOM will start the procurement of 25 VSAT equipment that

will link all data (age gender health status needs etc) collected in the camps into one centralized system estab-

lished at AFAD in Ankara in order to better assess the needs of Syrian nationals and to continue providing timely

humanitarian response to those in need

Commission (HRC) The project will assist the Government and partners to meet the needs of this vulnerable group

of migrants who have fallen through the assistance gap since returning to Lebanon

Shelter Assessment to Southern Lebanon On 17 June IOM conducted a visit to Sarafand in order to meet the

shelter land owner negotiate the rental cost and review the existing structure It was decided that IOM and a spe-

cialized engineer will check the cost of rehabilitation of this shelter before making the final decision

NFI Distribution On 17 June IOM purchased around 1000 NFI kits (each kit contains hygiene dignity and baby

items) that will be distributed to 1000 vulnerable Syrian families in Zahrani IOM plans to distribute NFIs to 250

Syrian vulnerable families in Akeybeh and Sarafand in the coming days To date IOM has provided NFIs to 86931

beneficiaries since the start of the crisis

Turkey Operations

Field Mission to Adiyaman Camp On 13 June IOM conducted a field mission to Adiyaman

province to assess the situation before implementing the transportation pilot project in the

camp The Adiyaman camp is hosting 10000 Syrians and the transportation services will be

offered to those referred to hospitals or need to reach social services outside the camp IOM

staff will be deployed to the camp and additional staff will be recruited to support the Disaster and Emergency

Management Presidency (AFAD) and local authorities in providing safe transport services to health and social ser-

vices

Provision of IT Equipment On 17 June IOM met with AFAD to follow up on the provision and installation of very

small aperture terminal (VSAT) equipment in the camps IOM will start the procurement of 25 VSAT equipment that

will link all data (age gender health status needs etc) collected in the camps into one centralized system estab-

lished at AFAD in Ankara in order to better assess the needs of Syrian nationals and to continue providing timely

humanitarian response to those in need
