Search 2.0

Factiva Search 2.0 is powered by Factiva Discovery Technologies and pr

vides a unique visualization of your search results. Simply type a few

words or phrases into the search box. Like searching on the Web, you d

not need to use connectors in your search.

The Factiva Search 2.0 is searching against a 90-day archive of content

which includes those sources in Factiva's collection that are actively

updated plus 500 websites, 150 blogs and audio and video content.

There are a few special characters that can be used to create more spe

ic searches. In Factiva Search 2.0 Beta, the following characters are ava

able: *, ? ñ

For example : Apple-Microsoft will retrieve Apple but not Microsoft

Podcast* - used as truncation. This will find any word that begins with

Podcast Globalization ñ used as a wildcard. This will find either globali

tion of globalisation. Note: You must enter a minimum of 3 characters

before using the wildcard (?) sign.

The Discovery pane organizes search results into categories or groupin

so that you can quickly see with the big picture around your search.

Filtered results are completely interactive, enabling you to redirect you

research dynamically to find new connections and ideas. Filters are

applied to all search results and include Date, News Clusters, Companie

Subjects, Industries, Keywords and Sources.

Note: News Clusters examine the first 100 headlines to find repeated

occurrences of hidden ideas or trends so you immediately uncover info

mation from deep within your search results.

Click the Alert Me link to set up Alerts to track topics of interest to you

You may also search within the contents of your Alerts.

• The description can help you locate sources when you use the Look up

tab. To find all sources covering energy, for example, enter the word in the

text box, choose Source lookup and you will retrieve a list of sources with

either energy in the title or in the source description.

• Factiva provides the following types of content coverage for publications:

- Full Text — indicates cover-to-cover or near cover-to-cover coverage of

that publication. However, some items found in print are not included.

These include: advertisements, classified ads and lengthy tabular material

(e.g. stock quotations). In addition, letters to the editor, obituaries, wire

stories and syndicated columns may be excluded.

- Selected Full Text — coverage includes full-text articles that meet specific

criteria based on the type of publication (e.g. newspaper vs. trade

articles with a business slant, major news items and articles from

the business section of the paper. For trade publications, coverage

generally includes items about new products, industry trends, mergers

and acquisitions.

Creating an Alert

How to set up an Alert

This process illustrates how you set up a Personal Alert for your own use.

Select the link Click here to create new alerts or go to the Manage My

Alerts tab and select Create New Alert.

1. Enter the Alert Name (up to 25 characters) in the Enter Alert Name box.

Add Factiva Intelligent Indexing terms by clicking on the desired indus-

try, region, subject or company terms, or use the Look up tab to find

terms. Add further free-text terms if required in the free-text box and

click on M o re Options to select other criteria, such as

exclusion features and relevancy.

2. Relevance is a measure of how closely documents match the terms you

enter. Alert uses a complex algorithm to calculate a relevance score

between one and 100 for each document. The score reflects how well

the article matches the search criteria for that Alert.

3. Specify whether you want your results to have a high degree of

relevance (a score of 85 or above), a medium degree of relevance

(75 or higher) or any degree of relevance (any score). The default is to

search for items with any degree of relevance.

4. To change your relevance option, go to the Relevance level pull-down on

the Alert Creation screen and select High, Medium or Any.

5. Go to Alert Delivery at the bottom of the Alert Creation page. You m

include the results of your Alert in one of your News Pages or you m

choose to have your Alert delivered to your e-mail address. To do t

select either Bundled E-Mail Delivery or Custom E-Mail Delivery.

Bundled E-Mail Delivery

The Bundled E-Mail Delivery options allow you to consolidate your e-ma

a l e rts from your Alerts. Instead of setting up a Custom E-mail Delivery f

each of your Personal Alerts, you can establish your settings once and

apply it to multiple alerts. Factiva will then send you a single e-mail mes

sage, at a time you specify, with the latest headlines from your selected

A l e rt s .

First Delivery will arrive at about 9.00 am for the time zone selected in

your Preferences.

Second Delivery will arrive at about 4.00 pm for the time zone selected

your Preferences.

Custom E-Mail Delivery

You may elect to have your Alert results sent to an e-mail address at cu

tomized scheduled times.

AlertA l e rt is a current awareness and alerting tool that scans articles upon arrival to Factiva.com and continuously ‘crawls’ hundreds of Web sites for ne

that matches your interests. The search is perf o rmed automatically and your results are re t u rned to a Personal Alert for online view or may be e-mail

d i rectly to you.

How Relevance Works:

The relevance score is a combination of three factors:

• The number of terms included in the query and how many of the search terms afound in a document

For example, Alert 1 contains the terms “software or computer,” and Alert 2 contai“ s o f t ware or computer or internet.” The relevance score for a givdocument containing the terms “software” and “internet” would be lower for Alert because the document satisfied only one “ e v i d e n c e ” of terms in Alert 1 and two “ ed e n c e s ” of terms in Alert 2.

• The number of times any term appears in an article

For example, if one of the free-text terms is “Airbus,” an article containing that termultiple times would score higher than an article containing it only once.

• The word count of a document

For example, if “De Beers” appears twice in a document with 100 words and twicean item with 300 words, the first document will receive a higher score. The longer tarticle, the more times a search term needs to appear to receive the same score.

take a search query constructed in Search and use it in Alert. Simply select

the Save As Alert link from the Search results page. You will be prompted

to name the Alert, set a relevance level, and select a delivery option.

A similar feature is available also when conducting a Company Snapsh

After viewing your Snapshot results, click the Save as an Alert

link, to follow the latest information on your company of interest.

Note: Consider these issues when setting up an Alert:

• The atleast and /fn/ operators cannot be used in Alerts; if you attempt to save a searchquery containing these operators as an Alert, you will be prompted to remove it fromthe query.

• When using the adjn, w/n, nearn, /nn/ operators in Alert, please note that they will onlywork within the limits of a paragraph.

• Some content that you may use in Search is not available in Alert. This includes discontinued publications where only older articles are available, some publicationswhose publishers do not permit their distribution in Alert, some Web News as well as pictures and reports.

Quick Tip: Refine Your Alert

If you are receiving too many documents or don’t get the results you are expecting your Alert, you have several options for refining it (which you can also apply on the maSearch screen):

• Select Factiva Intelligent Indexing — using Factiva Intelligent Indexing™ is one the best ways to make sure the items you retrieve are truly about a particular compny, industry, region or subject.

• Search fewer sources — in Alert, you can limit your search to Publications onor Web News only. Or you can create a Custom Source List that includes just tsources you want.

• Exclude certain types of stories — from the main Alert Creation screens, click the + sign next to the Exclude: option and select the box(es) next to the types stories you want to exclude, e.g. Republished news like newswire stories, stock priarticles, and obituaries.

• Use Editor’s Choice — Factiva editors have identified articles that shed uniqinsight into an industry. Material is available for 18 industries. To add Editor’s Choiindexing terms to your search, click the Select Factiva Intelligent Indexing link aselect the Subject tab. Choose the Editor’s Choice: Industry Trends/Analysis categoYou will be presented with a list of the 18 industries covered. Highlight the industry industries you want and click And or Or. Click Done.

Group Manager

Group Manager allows administrators to facilitate the flow of information

to groups in their organizations. Groups can contain all the users in

an account or be limited to specific departments, project members or

individuals. There is no limit to the number of groups or subgroups

you may have.

When you view the Group Manager screen, the left side is devoted to user

groups. The associated administrative groups appear on the right side of

the screen. Only authorized administrators may make changes. You are

authorized to only work on groups whose links are displayed in purple.

If you are an authorized administrator, you can use Group Manager as a

knowledge management tool to assign various capabilities to groups of

users. From the Group Manager page, you can click a particular group

within your list, such as “Marketing” and then see a list of more than 12

functions that can be applied to that group. In addition to adding and

removing users from the group, you can assign to the group specific Saved

Searches that you have set up in advance, as well as Custom Source Lists,

Group Alerts, Group News Pages, Company Lists and more.

You can also specify what those users can and cannot see when they access

Factiva.com. When you click Assigning Administrative Preferences to

Groups, you will see several general options and options specific to

Search/Alert, News Pages and Quotes/Market Data. For example, you may

not want your users in the Marketing group to redistribute results via the

Factiva.com e-mail function, and you may want them to see News Pages as

their Home Page when they log on and the company intranet Home Page

as their exit URL. Within the News Pages options, you can determine which

News Pages will be displayed first—Personal Pages, Group News Pages or

Factiva News Pages. You can also designate a default Group News Page and

Factiva News Page. In addition, within the Search/Alertoptions, you may

wish to block their access to particular content types such as Pictures but

keep their access to Web sites.

If there are certain attributes that you would like to apply to all users (e

block their ability to change their passwords), you can do this by click

the main account level group from Group Manager and then changing

respective setting.

If you are receiving too many documents or don’t get the results you are expecting inyour Alert, you have several options for refining it (which you can also apply on the mainSearch screen):

• Search Eur-lex Document Numbers as they appear in the Headline: For example, searching ID=32002R1630 or HD=32002R1630 retrieves the headline: “32002R1630 -Commission Regulation (EC) No 1630/2002 of 12 September 2002 providing for therejection of applications for export licences in relation to certain processed productsand cereal-based compound feeding stuffs.”

• Searching by specific Eur-lex Sectors using SE=, the field tag for Section Name:For example, sc=eur-lexe and SE=2. This search combines the source code for Eur-lexEnglish language, sc=eur-lexe, and the section code for the Eur-lex Sector ExternalRelations (Sector 2). It is recommended that you include either the source code* inyour search strategy, or select Eur-lex from the Source Browser. You can add free-textterms and date ranges to further narrow your search. The following are the Eur-lex sec-tors and identifying numbers available for searching with SE=:
