2016 ADVANCE MEMPHIS
INVOLVEMENT GUIDE
“My friends, you
were CHOSEN to
be free. So don’t
use your FREEDOM
as an excuse to do
anything you want.
Use it as an
OPPORTUNITY to
serve each other
with love.”
Galatians 5:13

serve In 2015, over 240 volunteers helped to operate programs that empowered the people of
38126 to move into financial security. We need dozens of NEW volunteers each year.
Contact [email protected] to ask questions. This guide will help you get
started—see Volunteer Roles.
give Without your gifts, almost half of this work would stop. Roughly 43% of our costs are cov-
ered by individual donors. Our Staffing Program covers 100% of its expenses, allowing us
to “make tents” where we can. Mail support to the address at right or give online at
advancememphis.org/give.
follow (and share) the story God continues to work here in 38126 and it is a joy to glorify Him as we tell the stories of
His work. Join us in hearing and sharing these stories. Contact [email protected]
to be added to our e-newsletter or prayer email lists.
There are
different kinds
of gifts, but the
same Spirit
distributes
them. There
are different
kinds of service
but the same
Lord. There
are different
kinds of work-
ing, but in all of
them and in
everyone it is
the same God
at work. Now
to each one the
manifestation
of the Spirit is
given for the
common good.

CHAMPIONS, ALLIES, MENTORS
These volunteers are the heart of the relationships which drive our
programs and there is nothing we need MORE than volunteers in
these roles. The next page of this guide contains details and
calendars so you can plan your involvement.
MEALS
We need meals for lunch during Work Life and dinner during
Faith & Finances classes. We love it all: homemade food or
delivered pizza!
MOCK INTERVIEWERS & RESUME HELP
We carefully prep participants for job interviews. Mock
Interviewers walk them through the interview process and provide
helpful feedback. We also need volunteers to join us in class to
work one-on-one with participants to create a current resume.
TUTORS
Tutors help GED/High School Equivalency students study for the
test by providing one-on-one help with problem areas.
EVENT SUPPORT
Throughout the year we have multiple events ranging from our
fundraiser, Art for Jobs, to workshops where we train others to
teach the curriculum we use. We need volunteers on hand to help
make these events happen.
WHAT’S YOUR PASSION?
There are so many ways for volunteers to serve at Advance. We
are grateful for photographers, graphic designers, gardeners, those who
enjoy marketing, accounting, data entry, or are good with computers. If
you’re interested in joining the work God is doing here, talk to
Amanda about a role that may be a fit for you.
If Advance doesn’t seem the right fit for your skills and interests,
or the burden God has put on your heart, we encourage you look
into roles at Streets Ministries, Su Casa, Refugee Empowerment
Program, World Relief, or one of the other ministries in Memphis.
PLAN A SEASON of MENTORING for 2016
Every success at Advance Memphis has its roots in relationships which share
the love of Christ. These relational volunteers are essential to this work.

Work Life Facilitator Training June 5-6, 2016 Work Life is a biblically integrated job and life-skills curriculum designed spe-
cifically for low-income adults. Through Work Life, churches and non-profits
can assist the materially poor in developing crucial skills for flourishing in
their careers and communities. The curriculum engages participants in
God’s grand story for their lives, uncovering how to live all of life, including
work, in light of that story. The $350 training package equips you to walk
with your low-income neighbors over time, leading to lasting transfor-
mation. For more information contact [email protected].
Art for Jobs September 15, 2016 The sixth annual Art for Jobs will feature art from generous local artists,
prints from generous donors, and much more. Help us now by donating art,
introducing us to artists, or by planning to sponsor the event. For more
information contact [email protected].
