PurposesPurposes
create new forms and opportunities of listening to children involved in the care and protection system;
support the creation and maintenance of stable forms of children’s involvement and participation at the decision that directly affect them (particularly in the case of children in care)
to promote occasions of training and reflecting on the implementation of the rights of the children involved in the care and protection system among the public social services workers and the operators of the private sector;

understand representations and opinions that children have about the care and protection system in which they are involved;
promote recreational opportunities for children to discuss and reflect among peers their life experience to create a sense of awareness useful to contrast the forms of self criticism/blame and social exclusion;
to establish new forms of participation and involvement of children at the decisions concerning various phases of this project (children as collaborators in the research);
comply with the standards of participation established by Interagency working group on children's participation (2006) and subsequently taken up and elaborated on the basis of specific experiences in this field (PIDIDA, 2009).

we have formed the steering group (composed initially by the adults involved in the project) and definition of responsibilities.

Meetings with boys and girls that have accepted to be involved in the project :
- CYP in foster care
- CYP that live in a residential care institution
- CYP that are in a educational daycare centre
Focus of the meetings:

The project field work is composed of :- at least 9 meeting of cyp in each territorial area (Local Health n.3-8-15)- at least 28 meeting in total (the 3rd phase will involved delegates of children) DELEGATES of children and young people will be chosen by children themselves during the previous meetings
At the end of the 3rd phase there will be a group of children (6-8 CYP) that represents peers and might take part at:- London residential meeting- the local steering group- the inter- territorial working group

Etnographic and Participant Observation during the children’s meetings and collection of field notes (direct observation and reflection on what has been observed)
with the support of video and audio recording of meetings, photos and verbatim transcription
Realization narrative interviews with boys and girls involved in the project (deepening lives experience; representations, hopes and expectations) focus groups with relevant social services staff, practitioners and foster families
to get in contact with some young people that were involved in a previous participation project “Vivere in comunità”.
- Some young people (aged 16 to 20) were informed of the european “involved by right project” and decided/accept to support adults in planning and in realizing this research project.
- 2 young people took part at the presentation of the project to families of origin, foster care families and children in foster care. They explained their experience, told episodes to their peers and had a pizza together with cyp in foster care
- 4 young people take part at the transnational meeting held in Bassano del Grappa

What we are looking for the What we are looking for the futurefuture
In order to consolidate the results of the IBR project we're are now thinking about the possibility of establishing a YAB (at least locally) and then:
- To study what are the steps to build this Young People Consultative Group;
- How to make it stable over time (even with the change of its components) and to identify what are the mechanisms for its composition (young people only from protection system or , also, from other areas);
- What actions make it able to produce and how to connect the activities with the activities of social services;
Furthermore we would like to develop a project idea that explore the theme of participation involving all young people in the processes of care and protection (not only in diurnal or host communities or in foster care situation);we are thinking not only to realize the YAB but also other possible activities :
- collective activities (laboratories, production of collective material, etc.) - individual activities.

The MAIN QUESTION is :
how children can be actors themselves (individually and /or collectively) and really
express their opinions in the care and protection
system processes involving them?
How and what young people can tell to the services system and policy makers, etc.?

From this experience, but also from literature and some previous experiences ,we are sure that young people:
- Can tell us (and teach us) interesting and useful things that can help us to change perspectives and points of view and so to modify/adapt approaches and practices (also in "consolidated” services);
- The participatory process and the possibility of being in a group of peers who live the same experiences :-have positive results;-produce “energy” ;-makes them feel less alone (this is also very useful for their personal growth process in relation to the events that generally they live as passive actors);
And, finally, we also know that in our context local regional level is necessary to develop this kind of experience that is much more widespread in the rest of the world (for example when we talk about “advocacy”)
