The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

INVOCATION P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

REMEMBRANCE OF BAPTISM P In Holy Baptism Jean was clothed with the robe of Christ’s righteousness

that covered all her sin. St. Paul says: “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?”

C We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 25:6–9 P The Old Testament Reading is from Isaiah, chapter 25.

6On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. 9It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

EPISTLE 1 Corinthians 15:51–58 P The Epistle is from 1 Corinthians, chapter 15. 51Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

VERSE P Alleluia, alleluia. Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the dead; C to Him be glory and power forever. Alleluia.

HOLY GOSPEL John 11:17–27 P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the eleventh chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. 17Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

APOSTLES’ CREED P God has made us His people through our Baptism into Christ. Living

together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen.

HYMN TO DEPART "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" LSB 461

5 He lives to silence all my fears;

He lives to wipe away my tears; He lives to calm my troubled heart; He lives all blessings to impart.

6 He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly friend;

He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

7 He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there.

8 He lives, all glory to His name!

He lives, my Jesus, still the same; Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives!

+ Jean Lois Bednarz + 6 December A+D 1934 – 4 February A+D 2020

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Jean. Jean Lois Bednarz was given life by her Creator and was born on December 6th, 1934 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the child of Arthur and Lillian (Schuelke) Krueger. She received the gift of Holy Baptism at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford, Michigan on December 30th, 1934 by Rev. C.L. Thalacker. She confessed that faith and received the precious gift of the Lord’s body and blood in her confirmation on May 16th, 1948 by Rev. Aaron Schultz. God blessed her with love and companionship in gifting her with her first husband, Ralph Dinnocenzo, who preceded her in death, and with a second husband, Russell Bednarz, who also preceded her in death. Jean was blessed with gift of children; three sons: Terry Dinnocenzo, Bob (Joanne) Dinnocenzo, and John (Kim) Dinnocenzo; and two daughters: Lou Ann (Michael Anheier) Hagen and Lynn Dinnocenzo. God blessed Jean’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, church, work, and in the community. She spent many years as a lunch lady for both Dickinson Area Catholic School and Iron Mountain Public Schools. She served as a 4-H Club leader, where she shared her love of knitting. She helped with Cub Scouts and the White Beret Drum and Bugle Corps. She was an avid Packer fan and a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder from the beginning. Not only did she enjoy knitting, but she enjoyed reading, traveling, and cooking and baking for special occasions on Cosgrove Lake as well. She was always up for a party. She loved her church here at Our Redeemer. Most of all, she loved her family and worked hard to keep them on the “straight and narrow.” Finally on February 4th, 2020, the Lord blessed Jean with holy death at Florence Health Services in Florence, Wisconsin, to await the resurrection of the dead with all who have died in Christ. Along with her children and their spouses, Jean is further survived by a special sister-in-law: Norma Jean Helms; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and both of her husbands, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Krueger. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister Jean.
