INVITATION FROM THE DESK OF
OUR PASTOR
If you have love for others, a desire to help
others, and are concerned about the
Kingdom and the Ministries of God, you
should want to serve. A saved heart is one
that wants to serve.
The Bible says in the b-portion of Eph. 2:10
TEV, “In our union with Christ Jesus he has
created us for a life of good deeds, which he
has already prepared for us to do.” These
“good deeds” are our service to the
Ministries of God and the world. Whenever
we serve others in any way, we are actually
serving God and fulfilling one of our
purposes.
We are going to give our life for
something. What will it be — a career, a
sport, a hobby, fame, wealth? None of these
w i l l ha ve l as t i n g s i gn i f i c an ce .
Service is the pathway to real
significance. It is through ministry that we
discover the meaning of our lives.
There are no insignificant ministries in the
church. Some are visible and some are
behind the scenes, but all are
valuable. Small or hidden ministries often
make the biggest difference. In a home, the
most important light is not the large
chandelier in your dining room but
possibly the little night-light that keeps you
from stubbing your toe when you get up at
n ight . There is no corre lat ion
between size and significance. Every
ministry matters because we are all
dependent on each other to function.
I want to personally invite you to become an
active part of one of the many ministries here at
the Atherton Baptist Church! Do it today! Don’t
put it off. Note that you have been saved to serve
and blessed to be a blessing!
May God Reward You For Faithful Service!
Because He Lives,

Mission Statement The Atherton Usher Ministry strives to
collectively meet, greet and lovingly serve the
church family and all of our guests who enter
our doors. We further commit to conduct
ourselves in a way that promotes a caring,
comfortable and orderly environment for the
praise and worship of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.
Our ministry works together to prayerfully
promote an atmosphere of reverence and
order before, during and after each service.
We take our biblical origin from the tribe of
Levi when the Lord spoke to Moses saving,
“Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them
before Aaron the priest, that they may serve
him. They shall perform the duties for him and
for the whole congregation before the tent of
the meeting, to do the service of the
tabernacle. They shall also keep all the
furnishings of the tent of the meeting, along
with the duties of the sons of Israel to do the
service of the tabernacle.” ~ Numbers 2:5-8
Our ministry’s inspiration to serve is aptly
stated in the Book of Psalms:
“For a day in thy courts is better than a
thousand outside. I had rather be a
doorkeeper in the house of my God than to
dwell in the tents of the wickedness.”
Ministry Goals 1. Expand our ministry by establishing an
on-going recruitment program to train ushers
for today and tomorrow.
2. Be a positive representative of the church to its
members and guests.
3. Be courteous, kind, considerate, friendly and
helpful to all who enter the church doors.
4. Maintain a training program to increase and
improve every usher’s performance and
knowledge of all services rendered.
5. Provide assistance to others ministries at
church functions.
6. Meet the needs of the Pastor and congregation
during service and keep distractions to a
minimum.
7. Travel with the Pastor to guest churches and /
or outings.

Invitation It is a fact that the spirit of a church is
determined and displayed, either negatively or
positively, to its guests and members by those
they first encounter on their way into the
sanctuary. Certainly, those that “keep the door”
are an essential part of this equation for they
are, many times, the first face one sees upon
entering the house of the Lord. Psalm 100:2
states, “Serve the Lord with gladness…”
Therefore, a welcoming, friendly face that
denotes a joyful spirit and a serving heart is an
asset to the body of Christ as we share the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. Your service is needed in
this vital ministry and we invite you to
participate.
