• helps to organise your study effectively in order to achieve
your strategic goals
• an introduction to research and the required skills needed to
undertake a Masters dissertation

Strategy
• A range of teaching and learning strategies may be employed,
including lectures, guest speakers, group work, role-play,
independent supported learning and collaborative work.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:
• Critically reflect on performance, plan and put into practice strategies
for improvement for study planning and career development
• Demonstrate an ability to use technical and educational resources

documentation to professional standard
• Demonstrate a critical and practical understanding of the methods

• Methods and skills of literature research, gathering of datafrom a range of sources, selecting and using appropriate
technologies available (e.g. library, digital library, Internet
facilities and other sources).
• The professional issues ever present in the environment,
including health and safety, standards, ethical and social
issues, professional bodies.
• Techniques required to analyse data and to present the
results in a suitable format.
• Research proposal specification, regulations andsupervisor's role.
• A student will demonstrate a wide range of professional and
IT skills such as producing technical documents, research
papers and outline project proposals and plans.

The Proposal – 45%
• Details your intended dissertation
• Detailed specification of a maximum of 10 pages
(see proposal format)
• Needs to include an introduction, project

deliverables, and resources• Include a Gantt chart project plan (for
dissertation duration of 24 weeks)

• You need to write a literature review of 3000 words
• To do so must do a thorough literature search
• Literature review should show a grasp of the ‘body ofknowledge’
