By now, law enforcement is familiar with our standard test kits for commonly abused drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. Over the last two years, Sirchie has been researching and developing products to combat the growing problem of synthetic cathinones and cannabinoids that are negatively impacting your communities. We are pleased to introduce a full suite of solutions for the presumptive testing of these substances.

a-pVp rEAgENTa-PVP is the 3rd “bath salt” configuration of synthetic stimulant. This presumptive test is a three (3) step field test with each color reaction necessary for a positive reaction. Sold as household substances, packages containing a-PVP, like other “bath salt” substances, will show the phrase “Not For Human Consumption” on the front of the package.

MdpV rEAgENTMDPV is a synthetic stimulant recognized as a Schedule I substance. This specific field test will presumptively identify MDPV, Butylone, Ethylone, Methylone, Naphyrone and Pentylone. Commonly found as a white to tan powder, these substances are being sold as everyday products like bath salts, stain remover, plant food or glass cleaner. Of the “bath salt” products on the market, this is the most popular chemical configuration currently and all testing should start with this specific field test.

MEphEdrONE rEAgENTMephedrone is the 2nd “bath salt” configuration of this synthetic stimulant found on the street. Not as common as the MDPV, we recommend conducting this test only after you have conducted the MDPV Reagent and not received a positive. This presumptive field test will positively identify Mephedrone with an IMMEDIATE Purple color after breakage and agitation of the 3rd ampoule. This product will again be sold as standard household substances like bath salts, stain remover, plant food or glass cleaner.

SyNThETiC CANNAbiNOidS rEAgENTMany hours have been put into developing a reliable, NIJ compliant presumptive field test for synthetic cannabinoids. This solution identifies only the “indole based formulations” of synthetic cannabinoids in a 2-step process. Fortunately indole formulas represent over 75% of the street substances and include: #JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, AB-001, AM-2201, RCS-4, RCS-8, XLR-11 and UR-144. This test does not color react with non-indole formulations, such as HU-210, CP47,496, or the new substance AKB-48, but fortunately these are less common and most street substances include multiple synthetic cannabinoids.

2C rEAgENTIn Sirchie’s continued efforts to address the ever changing face of drugs in this country, we are pleased to offer the 2C Reagent, the latest in a new group of synthetics sweeping the country.In July of 2012, the Synthetic Drug Abuse Prevention Act was passed which included the substances of #2C-E and #2C-I (smiles). All of these 2C products are psychedelics based on a combination of MDMA and LSD which leads to extremely intense and long lasting highs.

Designed to function as a transportable narcotics laboratory, NARK® II pouches are available for use wherever the need for their capability might arise. Each of the tests is comprised of one or more chemical reagents. When a predictable color or series of colors occur within a specific testing sequence, a positive identification may be presumed. Presumptive identification is generally recognized within our legal system as a component of probable cause. There is no drug identification system presently in use which completely eliminates the occurrence of false positives and false negatives. A forensic laboratory is required to qualitatively and quantitatively identify an unknown substance.
