Image manipulation Tools-I) 1.1 Content Aware Move Tool
This tool is a wonderful tool to move images from one point to the other without
disturbing the background. The symbol is as shown below
Step-1
Open the picture where you want to move an image from one point to the other.
Click on the Content Aware Move Tool from the tool bar
The content aware tool comes 4th in the spot healing brush tool.
Step-2
Duplicate the background image if you want to keep a copy of the original image and give it a name
duplicate_background

a) Select Mode = move
b) Select adaptation =very strict
c) Have select all layers checked

You can find the image with the dotted line around as a selected image

Now you can see that image of the person has moved up the hill
Content aware move tool with mode set to extend
This option is used to create duplicate a person as though more than 2 persons are climbing up the
hill.
Follow all the steps exactly as the previous example was done except

Press Ctrl +d to deselect the moved image .
Now you find 2 climbers are climbing the hill.

Now using the eraser tool I erase the extra snow from the new layer created as shown below

1.2 Red Eye Tool The Red Eye Tool is used to remove the Red Eye from the image which happens when you take a
snap with your camera and Retina of the eye gives a red tinge.
Step-1
Open the face with Red Eyes in your Adobe Photoshop CS6

Select the red eye tool which comes 4th from the spot healing brush tool as shown below

Using the Red eye tool drag it across the eyes of the child and they will turn black
1.3 Brush Tool
The Brush Tool is used to paint the canvas with a brush.The brush tool is identified by
symbol. Using the brush tool I draw 2 hills on the canvas.
Points to remember while using the brush tool
Foreground color :- The color that is used to paint on the canvas
Background color:- The background color.
Both fore ground color and the background color are as shown below
Above the
Foreground color is brown
Background color is orange
Both foreground color and the background color can be switched by pressing this button as shown
below

Others include
1. Mode :- The different modes of painting such as normal,dissolve,darken,color burn,Leniar
burn,
2. Opacity:-opacity of the brush
3. Flow :- the flow of paint from the brush tool
4. Type of brush :-Which type of brush you prefer to use
5. Size of the brush :-It sis the size of the brush that you are using.Here I have defined it as 45.
6. Flip X :- How you rotate the brush across X axis
7. Flip Y :- How you rotate the brush across Y axis.
8. Angle :- Angle of the brush.
9. Roundness:- Roundness of the brush.
10. Hardness :- Hardness of the brush
11. Spacing :- Spacing between every point of the brush stroke.

1.4 Pencil Tool This tool is used for pencil drawing purpose.
You can change the color of the pencil drawing as well as the size and opacity.
1.5 Color Replacement Tool The color replacement tool is used to replace the color of an image
It is done in 3 ways
a) Sampling Continuous
b) Sampling Once
c) Sampling Background Swatches
Limits
a) Contiguous :- Within a certain area
b) Discontiguous :-Wherever you find a color
c) Find Edge :- Where you find that edge

Duplicate the image to preserve the previous image
Hide the locked image.

Now select the color from the swatches as yellow as shown below

b) Sampling Once :- In this kind of painting only a sample of the color is taken from berries and
only that part of the berries are colored which match with the sample selected.

Go to swatches .Select the Orange color

Left mouse click at that point which you want to select and start painting the berries.
You find that only certain parts of the berries got colored by the Orange color while the rest
remain Red as those parts do not match the color with those colored.

Using the eye dropper tool select the foreground from the swatches as shown below

Press the Alt key and then left clicking with the eye dropper tool
Click the maximum red from the bird by striking the chest portion shown with a blue circle.

The foreground selected is shown below and the background color is as shown below

Keeping the limits at Discontigous state and Tolerance at 33% start colouring the bird. You
find only certain parts of the bird are coloured and the rest are untouched since the colour
,hue and saturation do not match with the point selected.
1.6 Color Mixer Tool The Colour Mixer Tool is used to mix 2 or more colours to get a new colour.
You can find the Color Mixer tool as shown below.It comes 4th in the brush tool menu

Brush Size :- This defines the size of the brush used
Toggle Brush Panel :- User to hide and show the brush panel
Color Well :- Used to store color selected from swatches panel
Options available for the color well
Load Brush :- this option is used to mix multiple colours
Clean Brush :- this option is used to clean up whatever color was added.
Load solid colors Only :- This option is used to work with single color in one stroke.
Load Brush After Each Stroke :- This option means load a brush each and every time you click the left
mouse button and start using the color mixer brush
Clean Brush After Each Stroke :- This option means clean the brush each and every time you click the
left mouse button and start using the color mixer brush
Wet :- How wet is the brush. 0 means dry brush ,100 means very wet brush
Load :- How much color the brush is going to take.
Mix :- How much color is going to come from canvas. If I state 90 it means 90 % from canvas and 10%
from Brush
Flow :- How fast the color is flowing in Each stroke.
Mixing 2 colours using color mixer tool. :- In this case we shall take 2 colours

Create a new file named color_mixer with Preset as Default Photo Size.

Click on color mixer Brush tool with the following setting
If any colour appears in the color well clean it by clicking the clean brush

Now you see the color well is red in colour

Select the option load color in color well drop down as shown. This helps in mixing 2 colours.
wet =100% { The brush should be wet to spread more color }
Load=100%{How much colour to load in one stroke}
Mix = 0% {This is the first colour we are adding and so mixing is 0}
Flow = 100% {how much colour is going to flow in each stroke}

Click on the Alt + left mouse button key to select the part of the image that I selected in Red color

Having the left mouse clicked run it over the couple and the child from left to right or right to left
You can click alt key + left mouse button to tell the computer the new positions from where cloning
should start when you start changing positions from head to toe.

What actually happens is that the point where you selected with the alt and left mouse key button a
duplicate image gets copied from that point and layers over the couple and the child.
The best way to go for a clone stamp tool are
First erase the husband and child till it is all cleaned up as shown below

Why do we use clone stamp tool :- when we want to preserve the background and use it for other
purpose such as web designing or photography. Now having a clean beach you can place your image

Creating A Pattern Is The First Step
Step-1
Create a new document
Height =2 inches
Width = 1.5 inches
Resolution = 300
Color mode = RGB
Click ok button

Insert an image into the canvas by copy and paste

Set stroke color =5 px
Location =Center
Opacity =100 %

1.9 History Brush Tool The history brush tool is used to clean up any errors done while working with the Adobe Photoshop CS6
document.
In the above document there is a pink cross on the photograph which by mistake the editor did it and
saved the document. In such cases removing the pink cross could damage the document. In such cases
the history brush tool is used to clean the pink cross.
Click the history brush tool and run it over the pink cross.

2.1 Eraser Tool The Eraser Tool is used to erase a part o the image or the total image. Let us consider the image as

2.2 Background Eraser Tool
The Background eraser tool is used to erase the background an image.
This is identified by the symbol

2.2.1 Sampling Continuous :- This option continuously samples the colors as the background eraser
tool moves across the image.
Step-1:- Consider the image as shown below

Continuous sampling erases the background sampling the hue,contrast and saturation of the color.

2.2.2 Sampling Once :- This option is used to take a color sample from the background and clear that
part of the image where the color matches the sample
Step-1:- Consider the image as shown below
Step-2 :- Sampling once clears that part of the image which matches with the color sample.The rest of
the image is uneffected.

2.2.3.1 Limits using Sampling Once
2.2.3.1.1 Contigious
This option is used to remove continuous sky background between the branches of a tree.

2.2.3.1.2 Discontigious
This is just the opposite of it. It removes the sky background between the branches of the tree basing on
the brush size.
Step-1 :- Let us consider the image as shown below

Discontigious clears up the blue background irrespective of the tree branches blocking the blue sky.
2.2.3.1.3 Find Edges
This option is used to remove the background at the fine edges of the branches.

Use of fine edges with tolerance 57% and Protect Foreground color with sampling once.
2.3 Magic Eraser Tool
This tool is used to erase the background in a single click of the magic eraser tool.
Step-1 :- Let us consider this image. There is an yellow background behind.
Step-2 :- Using the magic eraser tool as shown below with one click the blue background is erased.

2.4 The Paint Bucket Tool
The paint bucket tool is used to fill the background with paint. The symbol o paint bucket tool is as

Step-1 :- Create a new file with a new layer. Unlock the layer and fill it with Yellow colour using the
paint bucket tool.

2.10 The Burn Tool The burn tool is used to turn the white skin to darker tone as shown below

2.11 Sponge Tool
The sponge tool is used to increase or decrease the saturation of the image. It is identified by the

2.13 Free Form Pen Tool Used to copy a selected part of the image to a new layer or create a new shape.
Creating A New Shape
The free form pen tool is used to create new shapes which the user wants to prepare. They can be
anything starting from cups, bottles to very complex diagrams. The symbol used is

3.3 Direct selection tool The Direct Selection Tool is defined by the symbol
Used to change the shape and size of the vector image as shown below
Step-1 :- Click on the direct selection tool

Modify a vector Image by changing anchor point location if the vector image
Modify a vector image by changing multiple anchor points of a vector image
Modify a vector image by changing line joining 2 anchor points of the vector image
Modify a vector image by changing the line position joining multiple anchor points
Delete an anchor point of a vector image
Delete multiple anchor points of a vector image
Delete a line joining two anchor points of a vector image
Delete multiple lines joining multiple anchor points of a vector image
Move direction lines of a vector image in addition of an anchor point added

3.5 Hand Tool The hand tool is used move around the image if it is not in a full screen mode
Identified by the symbol
Some of the other features include
Scroll all Windows :- This means scroll all windows that are not in full screen mode
Actual Pixels :- Zoom Current Window
Fit Screen :- Fits the entire image to a screen
Full Screen :- View the entire image in full screen
Print Size :- Zoom Current window to print resolution
3.6 Rotate View This tool is used to rotate an image. It is identified by the symbol as shown

3.7 Zoom ToolThe zoom tool is used to zoom in an image and zoom out an image. It is defined by the symbol as shown
below
It is the important tool for editing small images which involve colouring , cropping etc.
Here means increase magnification
Increase magnification
Decrease magnification
Resize all windows so that they fit to the screen
This takes effectwhn multiple windows are opened and if one window is zoomed in all windows also zoom in to that extent.
Used when one wants to zoom a particular location. Another way to do it is click
and drag around the region which you want to magnify. Zoom current window to 1:1
Zoom screen to current fit size
Zoom current window to printing resolution
3.8 Switch Foreground and Background color
3.9 Quick Mask Mode
This option is used to edit images under quick mask mode

Full Screen mode with menu bar
Full screen mode :- To come out of full screen mode press esc key.
