CLASS ASSOCIATIONS
Australian Sailing |
• The Measurers/Inspectors are independent from their country or “team”. They are acting as race officials and are expected to be professional.
• The Measurer/Inspector should be involved in drafting of the NoR and SI’s in the area of measurement/class rule compliance.
• Balance thoroughness and reasonableness of measurement items and tasks. (Know thy competitors)
• During the initial part of measurement/inspection the Measure/Inspector is there to assist the competitors and ensure that their equipment is class legal. We are not to be consultants to the competitors by offering too much advice.
Introduction to Measurement and Event Inspection Seminar11
MEASURERS
Australian Sailing |
• After the regatta begins the measurer/inspector is there to ensure that the competitors
maintain their equipment in a class legal state, they act as “policemen” on the water and act
as impartial experts on measurement and related issues.
• The Measurement /lnspection Team are expected to act as a team and communicate
amongst itself and to the rest of the Race Officials.
• Use templates and jigs as often as possible rather than a tape measure. (Be consistent)
• Paperwork follows the equipment and is retained after
measurement/inspection, and after the competitor has signed it off, with the measurers.
• Spot checks are to be done fairly. (Balance of random and top positions)
• DO NOT RUSH MEASUREMENT/CLASS RULES COMPLIANCE!
• Make sure you and the competitors have fun
