The Science Of Vision
1. Light enters the eye through the cornea where it is bent or refracted
2. It then passes through the pupil and into the lens where it is bent or refracted again
3. And then light comes to a point (focuses) on the retina
When we look at an object, a complex chain of events must happen to form a clear image:
Overcoming Your Refractive Error
• Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism occur when there’s a problem accurately refracting or bending incoming light
• The iLASIK™ procedure corrects this problem by reshaping the cornea so that refracted light focuses more accurately on the retina
Your iLASIK™ Evaluation
• Before having the iLASIK procedure your physician will perform tests to gauge the health of your eyes and document your personal eye characteristics
Your iLASIK™ Procedure: Step #1 An Individual WaveScan™Map• The first step in the iLASIK procedure is to
create a 3-D map of each eye.• This map serves as the individual road map for
your iLASIK procedure
Your iLASIK™ Procedure: Step #2 Correcting Your Vision — The IntraLase™ Corneal Flap • Next, your physician creates a thin corneal flap
in a process called the IntraLase™Method• This unique laser is an advantage of the
iLASIK procedure• Some vision correction procedures use a blade
to make this flap
Your iLASIK™ Procedure: Step #2 Correcting Your Vision — Laser Precision
• When the cornea flap is safely made, a second laser is used to make the correction to the
cornea based on the exact
specification/measurement
of your eye(s).
Your iLASIK™ Procedure: Step #3 Postop And Follow-Up
• With your laser correction complete, your physician will reposition the corneal flap and your iLASIK procedure is complete.
• The entire procedure is typically completed in about 20 minutes.
