Terms you may need to know◦ Desk top: personal computer◦ Notebook: full featured PC that can easily be carried

around◦ Tablet PC: Portable device that can accept handwritten

input when the user touches the screen◦ Smart Phone: digital cellular phone with features such

as web browser, email capability, and more◦ Keyboard: a common input device that has symbols,

alphabets, numbers, function keys, punctuation, special keys

◦ Mouse: a input device that gives the ability to control the on-screen pointer by pointing and clicking. It rolls across a flat surface. Laptops and notebooks may have a flat surface where you

will use your fingers to control the movement of the mouse

KEY FUNCTION

F1 a. Help key, almost every program will open the help screenb. Open the Task pane

F2 a. Commonly used to rename a highlighted icon or fileb. Alt + Ctrl +F2: opens new Microsoft Wordc. Ctrl + F2: displays the print preview window in

Microsoft Word

F2 a. Opens a search feature for many programsb. Shift + F3: change text in Word from upper case to

lower case or a capital letter at the beginning of every word

F4 a. Open find windowb. Repeat the last action performedc. Alt + F4: close the program current active in Windowsd. Ctrl + F4: close the open window within the current

F8 Used to enter Windows startup menu; commonly use to get into Windows Safe Mode

F9 Opens the Measurement toolbar in Quark 5.0

F10 a. In Microsoft Windows activates the menu bar of an open application

b. Shift + F10: same as right-clicking on a highlighted icon, file or internet link

F11 Full screen mode in all modern Internet browsers

F12 a. Open the save as window in Microsoft Word

b. Shift + F12: save the Microsoft Word document

c. Ctrl +Shift +F12: prints a document in Microsoft Word
