Sweat the DetailsTo ensure customer satisfaction, make sure to familiarize yourself with the operation and functions of these popular Optima features and perform a thorough customer demonstration during Delivery. By taking the time to fully explain potentially difficult-to-understand (DTU) or hard-to-operate (HTO) vehicle features for your customers, you will help to pre-emptively mitigate potential questions and confusion and set yourself up for more repeat business. For detailed operational information, please view the Optima Features & Functions Guide or Optima Owner’s Manual. Pay special attention to the following features when conducting a vehicle demonstration.


Feature Demonstrate/Point Out At Delivery

Engine Noise & Transmission Shifting

Potential issues: Ticking from the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) fuel pump can be audible. Customers may perceive this as abnormal and believe a hesitation in the way the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) shifts is also abnormal.

Remedies:Explain the benefits and requirements of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI): • GDI injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber, affording greater

combustion precision which results in optimal performance and efficiency • To inject fuel directly into the cylinder, the injection pressure of the fuel needs

to be very high • High pressurized fuel delivery necessitates a high-pressure fuel pump • At times you may hear the fuel pump operating with a ticking sound;

this is normal • With the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), some drivers may experience a slight

time lag at takeoff from stand still during aggressive acceleration maneuvers • Explain to customers that the DCT feature by its very nature behaves differently

than a vehicle without DCT, therefore, it may take some time to get used to since this new technology has automated the manual transaxle into Automatic function

Explain the benefits and operation of the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), if equipped: • The DCT doesn’t rely on the complex hydraulic system

required by an automatic transmission, which requires engine torque to function

• Gear shifts are quick and efficient, approximately 15% more efficient than a conventional automatic

» One clutch connects engine power to odd-numbered gears » One clutch connects engine power to even-numbered gears » When it is time to shift, one clutch disengages as the other engages » This quick shifting may take some getting used to

Wireless Phone Charging Potential issues: Difficulty with operation.

Remedies:Review basics of operation: • The Wireless Charger is mounted ahead of the shifter; it is designed to

recharge the batteries of smartphones and mobile devices compatible with Qi wireless charging

» Not all devices are compatible » The charger may not operate correctly if there are foreign objects on the

charging pad, such as loose change » Some phone covers will interfere with wireless charging

• Wireless charging is available when all doors are closed and the engine is on or the ignition is in the ACC state

• A LED indicator in the console (marked with the Qi logo) indicates charging state » Yellow indicates the device is charging » Green indicates the device is fully charged

• Wireless charging will shut off if high temperatures are detected on the charging pad

Push Button Start with Smart Key: Always come to a complete stop before turning the engine on or off. However, if you have an emergency while the vehicle is in motion and must turn the engine off, you can turn the engine off to the ACC position by pressing the Start/Stop button for more than 3 seconds or 3 times in succession. If the vehicle is still moving, you can restart the engine by pressing the Start/Stop button with the shift lever in Neutral (N). With the engine off, power assist for steering and braking will be disabled, and the vehicle will be more difficult to control.
