Floor Framing Types Covered
• The three most common residential floor systems used in North West construction will be covered.
• Post & Beam
• Dimensional Lumber Floor Joist
• TJI Truss Joist
Floor Framing Objectives• Walls need to be framed on a square level floor
system built to precise plan dimensions.
• The floor framer should expect a foundation that was
poured to these industry standards.
• The floor framer must verify the foundation's condition
by checking for any problems.
• Any condition that is not correct with the foundation
needs to be corrected during or before the floor
framing installation.
• If the problems are not corrected, they will compound
and cause more problems over the course of the job.
Foundation Check• Check the stem wall top for level.
• Check the outside wall top dimensions.
• Check that the corners are square.
• Check that the pier pads, load bearing pads and
other under floor footings are installed and in the
correct location.
• Anchor bolt & seismic straps in place.
• Beam pockets in correct location.
• Stem wall top flat, free of rocks etc.
• Inside foundation free of debris.

Calculate the hypotenuse

Remove Rocks & Raised Cement
Check Walls for Straight
Sill plate needs
to be installed

chipped off 1" down
Remove & Clean Loose Concrete
Straighten & Clean up Bolt Threads
Apply WD 40 and thread on a nut
May need to wire brush threads
