• KEY STRATEGIC TRANSFORMATION AREAS

 • Demographically Representative Teams• To ensure that hockey teams and all other structures on and off the field reflects the

appropriate local, regional and national demographic hockey participation and overall population demographics.

• Equitable Allocation of Resources• Public Private funding and resources for hockey’s transformation with a bias to the

designated groups.• A portion of private sector funding must be allocated to the designated groups as part of

the corporate social responsibility • A Culture of Hockey• Co-ordinate the application of facilities to ensure that facilities are erected and

maintained close to where people live.• Support community based clubs• Ensure that school and youth hockey are priorities and played in all regions where

possible

• Acknowledge the contribution to hockey by black South Africans• Ensure that hockey is more affordable and that not one person is excluded because

of cost at all levels of participation.• Development Program• Evaluation and monitoring of the success/impact of the program• Realign the program as conditions change• Ensure funding to sustain the program long term• Gender Equality• Ensure gender equality in the structure and operations of SAHA structures.• Affirmative Procurement Processes• Implementation of procurement practices aimed at empowering the designated

groups.• Attitudinal Changes• * To introduce programs that will support the appreciation of the value of all

South Africans irrespective of race, class, religious, language or other differences.

CHALLENGES• 1. Lack of funding for continuous sustainable projects. Most projects run for

a few month's per year, and every year have to almost start from the beginning. The timing of funds received is a huge challenge.

• 2. Lack of decent sport facilities in our disadvantaged areas, makes it very difficult to introduce hockey, that requires a level surface.

• 3. No structured Phys Ed program in our schools, especially disadvantaged schools, to ensure that motor skills and hand eye coordination is developed at a young age.

• 4. Travelling, as artificial hockey turfs are expensive, and are not located in all areas. Travelling costs are high and an automatic deterent for those who do not have access to reliable and cost effective transport.

• 5. Lack of support system for programs in many of our disadvantaged schools. This is as not many teachers are prepared to help with extra murial

WEAKNESSES

 

• 1. Lack of quality female Black coaches, and Umpires

• 2. Fewer talented Black female players at the Youth Level, as compared to the Boys.

• 3. Lack of good Club's and Professional playing structure, to ensure more Youth players are retained into the Senior structures.

• 4. Player retention from Schools to Clubs

• 5. Lack of sponsorship across the board – Clubs, Provinces and National

• 6. Monitoring and Evaluation - National Office needs to be capacitated to ensure an effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation process of the Transformation agenda.

SUCCESSES 1.Well structured development projects in various Provinces, like Gauteng, Border, EP, WP, & KZN. 2. Good Coaching Education program, thereby more quality Persons Of Colour coming through at the Youth level. 3. Increase in the number of quality Black African male coaches coming through, like Moabe Malebye, Nduduzo Khanyile, Sihle Ntuli etc. Mo coached the Southern Gauteng Men's Senior Team in 2010. 4. Representation of at least 25% in all Provincial Teams5. Good representation in our Senior Ladies National team. Eg SA beat Argentina 4-0 with six players of colour on the field.6. Youth HP program, more Persons Of Colour are exposed to camps, scientific testing and follow fitness and skill development programs from a Younger age.7. Good Black male umpires coming through.
