The Landscape
• Increased expectation to explicate, report and audit all outcomes for all parties
• Increased value of harmonized curricula– And consecutive curricula? UG > F1/2 > ST > RC
• Increased requirement to map to professional / national guidelines
Particular Drivers
• Each School has a curriculum based on the recommendations in “Tomorrow’s Doctors”
• Each school has to take into account its individual strength and philosophy
• Scottish Doctor represents a consensus statement of common qualities
Cross mapping
• A quality assurance process to ensure TD is fully covered by SD
• A quality assurance process to test the completeness, focus and semantics of both TD
and SD as descriptions in their own right
• A mechanism upon which to attach further information
• A mechanism for curriculum analysis and development
Review
• Cross‐mapping was much less time consuming and painful than it might
have been
• Orphan outcomes were quickly identified
• Summary reports are useful, and clear
• The modular system opens a way to embedding outcome material within learning
and teaching resources
• Data visualization offers a fresh, helpful perspective on curricula
