I extend my congratulations to the 51 amazing recipients of the 2014 Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award and to the two Pinnacle Award recipients, for their unflinching determination to succeed, and for their many accomplishments.

Tonight, as we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Asian American Business Development Center and the thirteenth anniversary of the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award Gala, the award recipients will join the ranks of over 600 high achieving individuals who have been honored at this prestigious event since 2001. They represent a microcosm of the best of Asian American entrepre-neurship and professionalism, with a pool of diverse and multi-talented individuals engaged in a wide range of business interests. The depth and breadth of their business undertakings clearly demonstrate that Asian Americans are an integral part of the larger economy. Asian American entrepreneurs have multilingual and multicultural backgrounds that make them ideally suited to helping the U.S. stay competitive in the global economy. Corporations can leverage their Asian American profes-sionals within their ranks to enhance business in Asia and broaden their reputation as a global leader.

The past and present award recipients are a unique group of individuals who have what it takes to mentor the next generation of Asian American business men and women. We are excited to announce the launch of the Business Mentorship Network and are thrilled to have received support from Pfizer and Macy’s Foundation to enable it to be rolled out in the coming months. Finally, I would like to thank all our sponsors for their support, without which this event would not be possible.

Sincerely yours,

John WangPresident, AABDC

Wei Young Brian Founder•WEIBeauty,Inc.

Wei Young Brian moved to the U.S. from China after college in 1985 to continue her graduate studies. In 1993 Ms. Brian returned to China with her family and, inspired by the Avon and Mary Kay business models in the U.S., she built a direct selling beauty business from the ground up, going door-to-door. In just four short years, she created a beauty empire - 40,000 women strong. The successful business was dissolved because the Chinese government put an overnight ban on direct-to-consumer businesses. Returning to the U.S. with an autistic son, Ms. Brian turned to traditional Chinese herbal medicine and, in a short time, her son’s health and condition dramatically improved. She launched a new brand, Wei East and repeated her formula for success through the Home Shopping Network, and it grew into a multi-million dollar business and continues to be one of the network’s top selling beauty brands. In 2008, Ms. Brian developed an exclusive line for Space NK boutiques, WEI, infused with powerful medical grade Chinese herbals. Wei East and WEI skincare have expanded to the UK, Australia, Germany, Russia, China and Hong Kong.
