• June 8th. Transit of Venus (History, patterns of change, Celestial Mechanics, characteristics of the Sun and Venus)

• June 11th Cassini in Saturn (Objectives of the Mission to the Planets, Technology, Planetology, Exo-biology, Geology, Evolution of the Solar System)

• October 27-28th The Moon eclipsed (History, Kepler Laws, Newton Laws, Relative movements, Gravity action, Tidal forces, Mechanics, Characteristics of the Moon and of the Sun-Earth-Moon System)

• November 5th Venus-Jupiter conjunction (Ephemeredes, Historical observations, predictions, Characteristics of the Solar System)


Transit of Venus

• For the first time since 1882, Venus will glide across (transit) the face of the Sun on June 8th,taking 6 hours 12 minutes to complete its journey. The entire transit is visible from Europe, Africa (except the far west), the Middle East, and Asia (except the far east)

The second and final Venus transit of the 21st century occurs in 2012; the next pair of transits doesn't take place until 2117 and 2125.

Education Organizationfor Malargüe and Mza. Province

• Thursday evening (tomorrow) 20:00 – 22:00 in the Yellow Roomwe will have a meeting with teachers and administrators from Malargüe and other districts to discuss the future of courses, workshops, public talks, school visits, etc.

• We hope this informal discussion will guide our future steps inlocal education and outreach efforts.

• All Auger collaborators are invited to attend and participate inthe discussion. English-Spanish translation will be available.

• It should be FUN!

• If you or your institution initiates a certain education/outreachactivity (public talk, course for teachers/students, radiobroadcast, etc.), kindly inform Greg and Beatriz of theactivity and the content, in advance if possible, and how it was received.

• This will help us keep a complete record of Auger education/outreach efforts (for bi-monthly reports, etc.) and perhaps make new materials available more broadly.
