Introduction

The First Nations Education Council (FNEC) is very pleased to of fer the schools of its member com-munities this inventory of works in youth literature dealing with the theme of First Nations. In all, 400 works are included in this inventory. The objective of this project is to provide a tool for librar-ians and other education professionals wanting to obtain books in the f eld of youth literature, written by First Nations members or on topics of interest to First Nations.

The f rst step in creating this inventory was to analyze the works available at specialized websites and at the Hannerorak bookstore. The researcher sorted out the works on the basis of the available sum-maries. She then wrote a short description for each book. In her research, she concentrated on Quebec and Canadian authors (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal), whose works focused on the reality, culture and history of First Nations.

This directory will evolve over time. It does not claim to be an exhaustive list of relevant works. In ad-dition, we were not able to fully read all of the books included the directory . Some users may not f nd that they all present appropriate content. We invite you to contribute to the evolution and improvement of this Youth Literature Guide by sending us your comments at [email protected].
