Why a new syllabus?

What’s new?
no hard copy; everything on one disc brings together national guidance and
local requirements supplementary materials and web-links fields of enquiry form the statutory core incorporates new planning model and
exemplar termly units of learning EYFS aligned to national guidance and
given greater prominence
RE in the EYFS
RE is non-statutory until children reach statutory school age
taken from EYFS Framework with additional comments and RE scenarios from local practitioners
EYFS programme provides an essential foundation for KS1 RE

Statutory requirements
state schools, academies and trust schools should follow the locally agreed syllabus;
however there are some exceptions such as some denominational institutions which follow their prescribed syllabus

Statutory fields of enquiry
form core RE curriculum replace current ‘strands’ the basis for planning same 6 themes for KS1, KS2
and KS3 (KS4 required to follow accredited exam syllabus)
agreed in collaboration with QCDA and 50+ local authorities

consider: exemplar planning model spiral of learning time allocation pedagogy – enquiry models breadth of content/learning progression and attainment

P scales and ‘Can do’ levels APP and record sheets
Exemplar units of learning
three per year group (two for Y9) link to fields of enquiry and levels
of attainment, providing ideas for challenge and development
follow a learning cycle link to APP provide a model for schools to
adapt to their own curriculum
What to do next
subject leader raises awareness and discusses changes with colleagues
