About the BrandIndian® Motorcycle’s strong and storied history began in 1901 when the first Indian motorcycle® was demonstrated on May 30, 1901, in Springfield, MA, and reached speeds of 30 mph. From this point the brand set new records in both racing and sales launching iconic models like the Indian Chief® and Indian Scout®. During the war years Indian focused on supplying bikes in support of the war effort, supporting troops at home and abroad. In to the early 1950’s Indian® continued to dominate the race circuit until the brand ceased operations in 1953.

However, in 2011 US powersports giant Polaris Industries announced the acquisition of the Indian Motorcycle® brand, and within two years the all new Indian Motorcycle® range was launched on August 3, 2013, to a huge global audience at Sturgis Bike Week, SD. From this point Indian Motorcycle® has been re-established as a leading American motorcycle manufacturer, true to the spirit of the past, with the launch of multiple new modern motorcycles including the Indian Chief® Vintage, Roadmaster®, Dark Horse®, Scout® and Scout® Sixty.
