Interview Summary SheetInterview Details:Date: 8-29-13Time: 4:00 pmLocation: Rochester Yacht ClubSubject: Introduction to Sonar boat with KeithTeam Members Present: Matt, Mike, Nicole, Katy
Interview Notes:
1. What duties does a Jib Trimmer perform? Raise/adjust jib, adjust boom vang, and adjust Cunningham.
2. What range of motion does the Jib Trimmer need? The jib trimmer needs to be able to reach the control lines and move
transversely from one side of the boat to the other. control lines are located in the front of the boat The jib trimmer is seated just behind the boat’s cockpit.
Jib Trimmer’s location on boat
3. What parts of the boat are available for securing the transfer bench? The bulkhead to the boat’s cockpit and rubber hand holds are available.
4. Should the design be balanced side-to-side? Probably, or its weight should shift with the Jib trimmer to the opposite
side of the boat as the boom.
5. What safety concerns should be addressed in the design? More clearance for the jib trimmer’s head under boom consider 3-4 people total in the boat
6. What parts of the first chair worked well? Keith had limited knowledge of how the previous prototype of the chair worked with the customer.
7. What parts of the first chair could be improved? There could be more clearance between the jib trimmer’s head and the
boom. Design is no longer constrained by the size (needing to fit in the same
boat as the captains chair)
8. How is racing different for disabled sailors? Teams are based on a point system, with 28 total points. Points rank
sailors from limited disabilities (1) to major disabilities (7).
Bulkhead
Hand Holds
9. Storage Conditions? Most likely to be left in a boats for an extended period, which will most
likely be outside and uncovered
10. Weather Conditions? Salt water? Not likely during a race, but the transfer bench may be used in boats
operating in salt water. Sailors typically aware of weather when out sailing would not need to
withstand ‘extreme’ conditions
11. Permanently installed? No, bench system should be easy to install/remove
