The opportunity
• Meet, learn and be inspired by top academics, developers and manufacturers in the field of IoT.
• 6 week programme: 2 weeks in NZ and 4 weeks in China
• Travel, accommodation and meals are provided• Complete a 15 credit negotiated study course in the
IoT as it relates to your discipline.

Eligibility• Enrolled at Unitec• NZ citizen or permanent resident for 2 years• Not a citizen of China• Aged 18 or over• Available for six weeks between December and
January.

How to Apply• Online before midnight, 22 November
• 500 words about ‘why you’
• Transcript of grades
• Evidence of your NZ citizenship or residency
• Letters from referees

Who are we looking for
Ambassadors for Unitec and New Zealand

The nuts and boltsTravel dates are TBC but you may be away over some of the Christmas/new year period.
It is a 6 week programme: •1 week at Unitec •4 weeks in China (Chongqing & Wuhan)•1 week at Unitec.

First week• Team building activities at MERC or similar
• 3 day workshop on the basics of Chinese language & culture
• Explanation of the requirements of the 15 credit research project
• Pre-departure briefing

Chongqing componentChongqing University of Science & Technology
•Lectures and workshops
•Visit to Chongqing’s sensor manufacturing plant
•Visit NZ IoT companies located at Chongqing

Wuhan ComponentWuhan University & LJDY
•Work on your research project
•Spend time at tech company LJDY, located at Wuhan’s Sci-tech Park
•Talk to the company behind the new International & Trade Commerce Centre

Week 6 & beyond• Debrief
• Presentation to staff and students
• Participation in Unitec’s secondary schools outreach programme and other activities
• Involvement in Unitec’s IoT research projects
• If in your final year, you will need to commit to these activities throughout 2016

The research projectParticipants will be required to undertake a 15 credit research project appropriate to their own discipline.
Questions will be: What advantages does IoT offer? What industries can it be applied to? How big is the IoT going to become? How can New Zealand harness the potential of the IoT?

Selection process• 50% weighting to the applicant's GPA, which should
preferably be above a B+
• 25% weighting to the applicant's letter/essay
• 25% weighting to the applicant's references (up to three)

• What will you do to maximise the opportunity, both while you’re away and when you get back?

Take home messages• There has been a huge amount of interest in the
programme, but don’t let this put you off!• If you’re serious, you will need to make a compelling
case for why we should pick you• We want a selection of students from all different
disciplines• It’s not (just) about your grades! The type of person
you are and how you will leverage the opportunity are more important.
