introduced the concept of Internet of Things,
through his lecture on “Introduction of Internet
of Things & its Applications”. He listed the IOT
applications how that are going to change the modern life of a common man. The
instances of IOT applications presented are ranges from home appliances to
aeroplane path ways. Various realistic systems with an examples of Anti-
collision railway systems, traffic monitoring, pollution level monitoring, Health
monitoring, etc., . Further on his move, he introduced Aggregator &
NAN(Neighbourhood area Networks) techniques for effective use of IOT. He
emphasised the need of IOT in various sectors like smart Transportation,
Health, Agriculture, Household etc. He also discussed a case study on smart
home energy management.
In Session-2, the Resource Person Dr.Kodali Ravi Kishore,
Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering
NIT Warangal gave an insight on “IOT in our daily lives”. He introduced the
word “SMART’ as the Buzz word in the new Andhrapradesh. He introuduced
IOT as an area of opportunities for todyas
students. He introduced 3 i’s as basic for IOT
where 3 i stands for Instrument, Inter
connected and intelligence. He demonstrated
how a smart watch which monitors the persons
energy levels while exercising, working,
Jogging etc and also suggested how many more calories can be burnt.
He has shown an interactive IOT device, which responds to the commands
he speaks out and reacts to the commands by searching for the answer in the
various databases it is permitted to access. He also gave an insight about the
various gadgets which can monitor a persons diet and the nutrient levels in it,
Pag
e7
gadgets which monitor health conditions like Blood Pressure, Hear Beat etc. The
device can also be pre-programmed to connect to a nearest hospital and make a
request for admission of this person, in case of abnormalities in his health. He
also gave an insight about various IOT devices used in developed countries. His
speech went on in a thought provoking, innovative exploring mode.
In Session-3, started after the lunch. The Resource Person Dr.Raja
Sekhar Babu, Associate Professor, School of CSE, VIT University, Vellore raised
his concern on “Energy issues in the applications of IOT”. The Basic idea of IOT
is the devices should be connected to anything, anytime and anywhere. The IOT
devices need sensors and embedded
technology. These devices are battery
operated and hence they need to
optimization of power utilization, is
explained. He also concentrated on usage of
alternative energies like solar energy and
the intricacies involved in their usage. He also spoke about the E-waste that will
be generated and how it has to be recycled or safe disposed. At the end he gave a
glimpse on size considerations, Time, Space considerations and finally
everything should be given as a service. He suggested to the participants that
energy saving should be done in Software level and Hardware level. He
meticulously handled various queries on health hazards, alternate power usage
and E-Wastage.
In Session-4, the Resource Person, Dr.L.Dinesh Babu, Associate Professor,
School of CSE, VIT Vellore, Spoke on “Big data
and Online Social Networks”. He introduced the
various social networking media like Face
Book, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn etc and
the way they are generating huge volumes of
unstructured data, with high velocity and
veracity. This is basically called as big data. The important issues like how
people use these social networks and why they use it, and the various problems
Pag
e8
involved in using them in an improper way are explained. He also rightly pointed
how these social networks are used in natural calamities like Hud Hud, where
the Government could reach the victims through geo- tagging. He also pointed
out the current situation after demonetisation and how this big data and IOT
can help the people to do cashless transactions or find an ATM with cash. He
also suggested the importance of cloud computing in the cashless transactions,
Aadhar enabled point of sales devices, net banking.
In Session -5, the Resource Person Dr.P.Venkata Krishna, Dept.of
CSE, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam, Tirupathi, Chittoor District,
Spoke on “Cloud computing IOT and Big Data – Issues and Challenges in next
generation networks”. He enlightened the
audience about the drastic change in the
home or work place with the use of next
generation networks like cloud computing
and IOT cloud. Computing is the back
bone of IOT. Cloud computing builds the
data attained from big data into various
levels and makes it available to use by the IOT as per the demand. Cloud
computing can offer cloud software, cloud platform or cloud infrastructure as
service. IOTs work similar to how human sense, analyse and communicate. He
also discussed various case studies like “giving a fastest route to reach a
destination” depending on the current conditions, IOT in Health care. Finally he
concluded that the use of next generation networks is becoming essential to
improve the quality of life and progress of nation.
