About Technical Visit to AgraTechnical Visit : The 800 kV HVDC terminals at Agra is locatedabout10kmfromthevenue.TheAgraHVDCterminalistheInverterstationoftheworld’sfirst800kVMultiterminalHVDCProjectof6000MW capacity and total line length of about 1700 km. One BipoleRectifier station is located in Biswanath Chariali (Assam) and thesecondoneatAlipurduar (WestBengal).Thismulti terminalHVDCproject was envisaged for evacuation of bulk power from NorthEasternRegionof India.NorthEasternRegionof India isendowedwithlargehydropotentialoftheorderof50GWwhichisrequiredtobetransmittedtotheloadcentersofNorthern/WesternandSouthernregionsofIndia.Transmissionofsuchquantumofpoweroveralongdistanceand throughcertaingeographicallynarrowcorridorscalledchicken-neckareaofWestBengalrequiredaHVDCsolution.Lookingintothegenerationadditionprogram,theprojecthasbeendevelopedstagewiseusingparallelgroupsofconverters.EachpoleoftheMultiterminalHVDCProjecthascontinuouspowercapacityof2000MWi.e.,a33%overloadcapabilitywhichcanbeutilizedtocompensatefullpowerforlossofonepolebyincreasingpowerflowontheotherthreeavailablepoles.AhugeindoorDCyardofabout75x75mand40mheightisaspecialfeatureattheAgraInverterStation.
