The Meiji Restoration

There was no international relation due to the closed door policy

Only once a year a Dutch boat came to JapanThey excluded themselves from the rest of

the world during the closed door policy The only started having relations with other

country's when the Americans invaded.

Before the Oath

The Oath said that “Evil customs of the past shall be broken off and everything based upon the just laws of nature” through this they learnt new customs from other countries

People of all classes could wear western clothes

Ballroom Dancing was introducedFood from different countries replaced

some of the usual Japanese cuisine

Changes made

Japan mastered the art of modern warfare that they learnt from the western powers

Japan got a better army and became an ally with Britain

Japan was allowed to choose who and where they traded there goods with

They embraced European technology and then had telephones and railways.

The Japanese gained lots of new customs and stopped there old ways

The Japanese had more freedom and were allowed to have contact with other countries

Effects of the change

After the Ally of Japan and Britain. Japan wanted to oppose the Russians who were trying to take over Korea and Japan waged war on Russia in 1904

The treaty of Portsmouth ended the war in 1905

The treaty of Portsmouth was to recognised japans interests in Korea

This allowed japan to become a more respected Country
