    Swansea University offered the kind

of experience that not only suited mypersonal needs but also professional

goals. No doubt, the training at

the Swansea University offers mea platform for career advancement

and a competitive edge over otherprofessionals in a eld (public health)

that presents an abundance of jobopportunities to suit a variety of

    interests and skills.

It has been great experience studyingPsychology in Swansea University. I havecompleted both BSc degree and MScResearch Methods in Psychology at SwanseaUniversity in the past 4 years. The learningenvironment was great and the sta memberso the psychology department were veryriendly and helpul. The department has

given extra attention to us internationalstudents; a mentor helped us with study skillsby proo reading our coursework etc. TheMSc research course provided us with boththeoretical and practical research skills. I gotto work on dierent types o projects thatcover a wide variety o topics.

    Dr Serge Engamba, Yaounde/Cameroon

MSc Public Health and Partnerships in Care

The MSc Public Healthand Partnerships in Careprogramme gives methe highly sought ater

knowledge in Public Health, however it alsoprovides a useul insight into social care andsocial sciences which I was also lookingor. To my opinion, appropriate health carecannot be achieved i it is not consideredalong with the social setting in which itdeemed to take place.

While I looked or universities last yearI ound that Swansea oered one o thecheapest tuition ees or the programme

I was interested in. For that reason I wasexpecting a lower standing o teaching andoverall student experience. But I must sayI was really impressed by the setting andassistance I received. I would recommend itto anyone looking or a high standing studentexperience at an aordable cost.

The riendly attitude o teaching stawas a highlight or me and I enjoyed thesynergy and continuous link establishedbetween health and social care. I hope to

pursue a PhD in health science at SwanseaUniversity.

    Olive Mtema, Malawi

    MSc Research Methods in Psychology

Olive Mtema was aCommonwealth sponsoredstudent and graduatedrom the Masters in Public

Health and Partnerships in Care in 2007.She returned to Malawi in January 2008and is making an impact in a dicult andsensitive area. As Policy and AdvocacyAdvisor or Futures Group, Olive organiseda two-day conerence that ocussed on theplanning and prevention o HIV/AIDS amongMuslim communities in Lilongwe, Malawithrough appropriate Islamic teachings. Theconerence was such a success that USAID,the Ministry o Health and other developmentpartners promised to use the conerencesresolutions as bases or uture healthprograms with Muslims populations. Olivesaid,

All the modules we studied on the Mastersin Public Health and Partnerships in Care

helped to shape us to be leaders in publichealth, who are able to conduct researchand generate evidence or eectiveprogramme implementation.

Discussion as a mode o teaching andlearning provided us with an opportunity towidely explore public health issues rom bothEuropean and international perspective. Itwas very inormative and home students hadchance to learn rom us how dierent publichealth issues in UK are rom developingcountries like those in Arica.

    All the modules we

    studied on the Masters in

    Public Health and Partnerships

in Care helped to shape us to

Beore I came to study at SwanseaUniversity, I did a BA in Sociology andPublic Administration at the University oZambia, which I completed in 2005. Ichose to come to study at Swansea becauseI was encouraged by the eciency andeectiveness in communication.

I taught asa Zambia Air Force teacher or teenyears at primary and secondary level oeducation beore studying Sociology andPublic Administration. During this time, I wasinvolved in community work as a projectcoordinator, taking care o the chronicallyill patients o HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosisincluding orphans or nine years. I resignedater twenty years to join BwawanoCommunity Home Based Care (HBC) Projectas the Integrated HBC Coordinator. Mymain role was to coordinate activities o theorphans, HIV/AIDS patients and TB patients.I held this position or our months beorecoming to Swansea in September 2007.

Luckily, Michael Kelly Bursary Committee, under Zambia National AIDS Network, oered me sponsorship out o thousands oapplicants to study abroad!

The Placement Module was the bestexperience or me. Issues that concernchildren and the youth are o great concernand passion or me. I had an opportunity totalk to and visit one home o oster parentsin Swansea who take care o the LookedAter Children. The aim o the placementwas to observe and compare the care othe Looked Ater Children with the HIV/AIDS orphans in Zambia. It was also anopportunity or me to share good practiceto improve the care o these children. One o the important lessons learnt romthis placement was how it linked to healthpromotion activities through partnerships inorder to improve access and quality careor children. I also learnt that patience andpresence or the children were virtues incare. It was a antastic experience.

Chong was excited rom the start to have anopportunity to study at Swansea University. When I attended an open day at theUniversity, the rst thing that I noticed wasthat there were lots o people rom dierentcountries; it elt like an equal proportionbetween each place.

I chose to do psychology because I wasunsure o what career I wanted whenI graduated. I have ound the coursereally interesting because o the variousapproaches to psychology and I like theway the course has been set up or us - inthe rst hal o the rst two semesters wegot an introduction to the modules, beoreprogressing to more advanced knowledge.Ive also been able to do social anddevelopmental psychology, which is notavailable in all universities.

We have module-related tutorials andpersonal tutors to assure us, i we have anydiculties we can go to them and they arehappy to answer any questions. I remember Iwas really stressed about my rst ever essay- I talked to my personal tutor and he assuredme that it was not that hard and gave me aew tips on how to start the essay.I would denitely recommend SwanseaUniversity to other international students asit provides a great atmosphere or study! Allthe people here are riendly and enthusiastic, and there are a wide range o activities thatyou can join in with when you come here. The city centre is not that ar away rom theuniversity campus which is always a plus.We also have a antastic beach across theway, which is a sight that you must see oryoursel.
