Host organisations
International Association of Sedimentologists
The International Association of Sedimentologists has over 1600 members in over 50 countries, with about a third of students. It was founded in 1952 to promote the study of Sedimentology by:
• publication, discussion and comparison of research results, journals (Sedimentology and The Depositional Record) and newsletters;
• encouraging the exchange of research where international cooperation is desirable. International Sedimentological Congresses are held every four years and Regional and Thematic Meetings gathering about 700 sedimentologists are held every year;
• promoting integration with other disciplines. The IAS offers PhD students in the field of Sedimentology 2 types of grants: postgraduate research grant and travel grants. Sedimentology researchers in developingcountries can apply for institutional grants .
Each country has a national correspondent informing the IAS of sedimentological activities and assisting in attracting members within their country. Together, National Correspondents in more than 50 different countries currently form a strong global sedimentological network.
Association des Sédimentologistes Français
L’Association des Sédimentologistes Français was founded in 1965 to connect people interested in the study of sediments and the formation of sedimentary rocks.
• The association is open to teaching and research staff, students, and the general audience interested in sedimentary processes and their relationship with external geodynamics. It has over 450 members in France and French speaking countries.
• The ASF organizes field trips, specialized workshops, field schools and training for students, teachers and scientists. Since 1987, it organizes national meetings gathering over 300 sedimentologists every two years. It also sponsors scientific events in collaboration with other Earth Sciences Associations.
• The ASF publications cover: ASF meeting acts, field trip and summer schools books, meeting logs and symposia documents.
• Over 45 French departments, universities or major companies have a correspondent that inform the ASF of sedimentological activities and assist members.

Why Toulouse ?
We are honored to welcome you to Toulouse. We are confident that you will have a truly memorable and rewarding stay in the “Ville Rose”!
Young, modern and dynamic, Toulouse tingles your spine with a Latin heat that inspires both its temperature and architecture. Toulouse is the 4th largest French city, in the heart of sou-thwestern France. The town is ideally located halfway between the Pyrénées Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Toulouse is traversed by the Garonne River and the charming Canal du Midi.The city seduces by its small sinuous streets and diverse medieval to modern monuments, as the City Hall and its Donjon (XVIth), or the numerous noble townhouses (XVIth-XIXth). Toulouse is a cosmopolitan and enthusiastic town, mixing historical heritage and modern lifestyle.
Toulouse has one of the most intense cultural calendars sustained by one of the best sym-phonic orchestras of France, a variety of mu-sic festivals and theaters, and a large variety of museums. Gastronomic specialties include the famous ‘saucisse de Toulouse’, the ‘Cassoulet’, and the delicate ‘foie gras’. Toulouse is also well known for its rugby union club, its profes-sional football team and the top-level handball and volleyball teams.
Weather in Toulouse in October is quite warm (10 to 19°C) and sunny (57mm mean rainfall).
The university, founded in 1229, is the third largest in France, one of the oldest in Europe. Major fields are Aeronautics, Electronics and Electrotechnics, Agronomy, Health Sciences and Earth and Planetary sciences. Toulouse has been chosen to host the EuroScience Open Forum in 2018, becoming the European City of Science.
