INTERNATIONAL INDIAN SCHOOL, RIYADH
WORKSHEET FOR HALF YEARLY EXAM, 2018-2019
CLASS V SUBJECT: ENGLISH
SECTION-A (READING)
I. Read the passage and answer the following questions.
I woke up in the morning with the sun shining on my face. I jumped out
of bed with a shock. I realized that there was something definitely
wrong. Mother always woke me up at 6 0'clock. I usually woke up to the
sound of my mother singing in the kitchen. Today there was silence.
I walked to my parents' bedroom and saw my mother lying there, curled
up under a blanket. A blanket! A blanket in the month of July! Something
must be wrong. I tiptoed up to her --- her skin was burning! I woke my
father up and told him mother had a high fever. Mother awoke with a
groan and seeing the look on our faces, smiled and told us not to worry.
She wanted to get up and cook for us, but we told her that we would
take care of her.
Father and I went to the kitchen to make some tea and toast. We put
the water and milk to boil in a pan and looked around for the tea leaves.
We opened at least 15 jars before we found them! Father yelled in
pained as he picked up the pan with his hand --- he hadn’t realized it
would be so hot!
