THE UK’S TOP 10 COLLABORATION PARTNERS, BY NUMBER OF CO-AUTHORED PAPERS The UK’s top collaborative partner country is the USA and 13 out of the UK’s top 20 collaboration partners are EU member states.

RESEARCH COLLABORATIONS WITH THE UK AND THEIR IMPACT

INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COLLABORATIONSThe UK is a world leader in internationally collaborative research. This is a great advantage to our research base: UK international co-authorship is associated with 61% greater field-weighted citation impact compared to UK institutional co-authorship.

46% of UK research publications involved an international collaboration in 2012, and since 2003 the rate has grown faster than its key

competitors except the USA, where only 30% of publications are internationally co-authored.

While growth rates are negative in some countries, this is likely due to a rapid expansion of total research publications in these countries,

rather than a decline in the number of internationally co-authored publications.
