COMPETITION THEME

“Sustainable Self Compacting Concrete”

BACKGROUND Recent development shows increasing demand of facilities and infrastructures. In the world, infrastructure development has been intensively implemented. Progress in the construction industry demands renewal and innovation to solve existing problems. Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is high-quality concrete that can solidify itself. The use of SCC increases significantly every year. Over time and the high pace of infrastructure development, required adaptations of SCC to remain reliable in meeting the needs of the construction industry. However, innovations concerning the use of materials or added materials used for SCC are still less innovative. With geographic diversity in the world, is expected to find materials that can be used and developed as innovation of material composition for better SCC, without eliminating the concept of high concrete compressive strength in the early age of concrete and of course can be produced on a large scale. Therefore, required research and development from academic and students to the increasing variety and innovative materials or added materials for SCC. International Concrete Competition CIVILWEEK 2018 is a competition to develop concrete innovation in term of methods and materials used. In accordance with the problems that have been described, in this year International Concrete Competition CIVILWEEK 2018 takes the theme “Sustainable Self Compacting Concrete”, which is SCC innovation that has a high initial compressive strength by considering the environmental aspect, economy, and the possibility of large-scale production in the planning. International Concrete Competition CIVILWEEK 2018 is expected to produce innovation in order to support the progress of infrastructure development.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SUPERPLASTICISER

DESCRIPTION

Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG is a third generation super- plasticiser for concrete and mortar. For high range water reducing superplasticisers.

USES

Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG is a unique multi purpose superplasticiser that is particularly suitable for the production of concrete that demands high early strength with extended workability. Additionally it provides ultra high water reduction and excellent flow characteristics. With its outstanding combination of workability time and early strength development Sika® ViscoCrete®- 8050 SG is used for the following : ▪ A wide range of applications where excellent workab-

i l ity and good early strength development are re- quired.

▪ Concrete with ultra-high water reduction (up to 30%).

▪ High performance concretes

CHARACTERISTICS / ADVANTAGES

Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG is a powerful superplasticiser based on advanced technology which gives the following advantages : ▪ High water reduction, resulting in high density, high

strength and reduced permeability. ▪ Extended workability in conjunction with sub-

sequent fast strength development. ▪ Excellent plasticising effect, resulting in improved

flow, placing and compaction characteristics. ▪ Reduced shrinkage during curing and reduced creep

when hardened. ▪ Provides many opportunities for cost improvement

e.g.: Cement reduction, More economic mix design, Reduced energy costs for steam curing precast ele- ments, Reduction of potential claims etc.

Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG does not contain chlorides or any other ingredients which promote the corrosion of steel. It is therefore suitable for use in reinforced and prestressed concrete structures.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Concreting Guidance The standard rules of good concreting practice, concerning production and placing, are to be followed. Laboratory trials before concreting on site are strongly recommended when using a new mix design or producing new concrete components. Fresh concrete must be cured properly and as early as possible.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Recommended Dosage For medium workability: 0.3 % - 0.8 % by weight of cement. For concrete with high workability, very low water/cement ratio :

0.8 % - 2.0 % by weight of cement.

Compatibility Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG may be combined with the following products: ▪ Plastiment® P121R ▪ Plastiment® VZ ▪ Sika® Fume ▪ SikaFibre® Do not use viscocrete / viscoflow series combined with sikament series. To produce flowing and / or self-compacting concrete, special concrete mix design is required. Pre-trials are recommended and mandatory if combinations with the above products are required. Please consult to our Technical Service Department.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

DISPENSING

Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG is added to the gauging water or simultaneously added with it into the concrete mixer. To take advantage of the high water reduction, a wet mixing time of at least 60 seconds is recommended.

LIMITATIONS

Excessive water addition or overdosing may cause bleeding or segregation. If frozen and / or if precipitation has occurred, Sika® ViscoCrete®-8050 SG may be used after thawing slowly at room temperature followed by intensive remixing.

BASIS OF PRODUCT DATA All technical data stated in this Data Sheet are based on laboratory tests. Actual measured data may vary due to circumstances beyond our control.
