CustomersLearning engagements are also available to Prent customers.During designated dates throughout the year, the companydelivers Thermoforming 101 training for customers,personalizing each class to provide differentiated value atevery touchpoint. In return, this collaborative process caninitiate the “design to value” approach, uncovering newinsights and identifying potential design changes before theimplementation processes.

YouthsThe company values its partnerships with universities andeducational organizations. Aimed at enriching youths andsupporting our next generation of innovators, Prent providesopportunities to youths in support of advancing STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.Through educational outreach, Prent helps shape the future ofpackaging professionals.

Student Organized Conference DrawsAspiring Packaging ProfessionalsIn early April, 152 students and 85 industry professionals fromacross the country traveled to Wisconsin to participate in the31st Annual Packaging Jamboree hosted by the University ofWisconsin-Stout. Prent Corporation was a ‘Gold’ level sponsorfor the three-day conference which brought students togetherto learn about packaging trends and leading edge innovation.The Jamboree is an annual event hosted by a differentuniversity each year. The agenda includes collaborativesessions focused on packaging trends, programdevelopments, and networking.

Attracting and Developing Tomorrow’sPackaging Workforce Prent has been a long-standing educational partner with UW-Stout, actively engaging with some of the brightest youngpackaging professionals. Theestablished partnership hasprovided students access tosophisticated thermoformingoperations as well asopportunities to work side-by-side with innovative product development teams. Prent offerstwo achievement-based scholarships per year to UW-Stoutpackaging students who meet certain eligibility requirements.

As an extension of the Packaging Jamboree, Prent leveragedthe proximity of the event and invited students and facultyfrom Michigan State University to Prent’s headquarters inJanesville, Wisconsin. The visit included a detailed facilitytour and engaging discussions on product development andinnovative thermoforming processes. Hosting the groupproved to be an excellent opportunity to highlight why Prent isa key differentiator in the industry, as many packaginggraduates from Michigan State and UW-Stout becomepotential employees or customers of Prent.

Students from Janesville, Wisconsin areaschools received a personalized look atPrent Corporation’s global operations.Before embarking on their 18-day trip toChina, the students visited Prent’s WorldHeadquarters in Janesville. With a focuson cross-cultural education, the JanesvilleInternational Education Program (JIEP)partnered with Prent to create anopportunity to educate students on theglobal nature of their business. JIEP is aprogram supporting education and cross-cultural experiential learning programs. “I wanted the students to focus thisexperience on international business, andshow them how local Wisconsincompanies such as Prent Corporation aregrowing globally. Many students do notknow that global companies exist in theirhometown,” said Karl Bryan, SchoolCounselor at Craig High School inJanesville. “It allows students anopportunity to learn more about careersthey may expect to see in manufacturing,and also an opportunity to discoverunexpected manufacturing career pathssuch as finance, sales, and marketing.”Karl Bryan is actively involved in theschool’s international education programand traveled abroad with the students.During their trip to China, the studentswere invited to tour Prent China and learnabout local day-to-day businessprocesses. The visit was organized in an

effort to create a cross-cultural connectionbetween Prent’s global operations andinternational presence. Joined bystudents from Liangfeng High School, thetwo-hour visit included a presentation andplant tour, followed by a lengthy questionand answer session. “The students were asking goodquestions about the business operationsat Prent China. They were also eager tolearn about the advantages of being aninternational company, and sought adviceabout college qualifications foremployment,” said KH Kuan, GeneralManager of Prent China. “Visiting Prent Corporation in bothWisconsin and China made me realize thevariety of career paths that come from ascience or engineering background. Iwant to travel and see the world, and Ididn’t realize the variety of global jobs thatare available right here in Janesville,” saida Craig High School student.The team of students focused onimmersing themselves in the local culture.While touring the villages outside ofShanghai, the students witnessed the gapbetween the rich and the poor andrecognized the urban-rural divide. Kuanexplained to the students that thetraditional villages will slowly disappear togive way to the growing economy anddevelopment in urban Shanghai.

Prent Puerto Rico recently embarked on asite expansion project to streamlineproduction operations and materialhandling at its manufacturing plant. Theexpansion project includes growing storagecapacity by 200%. As it exists today, thecurrent facility has plenty of productioncapacity; however, the storage capacity hasproven to be limited. The warehouse willaid in current growth projections allowingPrent to continue delivering a service thatexceeds customer expectations and supply chain reliability.

“The commencement of the construction project marks thebeginning of an exciting chapter for Prent Puerto Rico. Theadditional space will allow us to continue developing on-handinventory agreements to ensure we can adjust to customer variationsin demand,” said Victor Nazario, Prent Puerto Rico Plant Manager.

The extension of the Prent Puerto Rico campus will also allow a key

supplier, GOEX Corporation, to leverage the space for just-in-timeinventory and localize distribution in this growing market. Prent’sflexible and committed workforce, coupled with an automated andefficient inventory management system can quickly respond toinventory levels, avoiding stockouts and minimizing costs tocustomers.

The expansion project is expected to be completed before the end ofthe year.

Prent Corporation was well-represented by the PrentDenmark team at one of the leading medicaltechnology events in Europe. Medtec Europe is a keyexhibition bringing together leading medicalmanufacturers and innovators from more than 30countries. The event fostered networking with newand established partners, and created anopportunity to showcase Prent’s deep industryexperience and market-leading thermoformingcapabilities.

Industry partners and attendees visiting Prent’s boothwere welcomed by Peter Bay, Managing Director,Philip Astrup Madsen, Account Manager and FrankHenriksen, Area Sales Manager.

Prent Corporation has expanded production capabilities to includean ISO Class 8 qualified Secondary Operations clean room attheir world headquarters located in Janesville, Wisconsin.

The integration of the ISO Class 8 Secondary Operations cleanroom allows manufacturing operations to be performed in acontrolled environment. The clean room design maintains aconstant positive air pressure throughout to assure furtherrecurrent filtered air exchange levels. This level of environmentalcontrol is integral to the healthcare and medical industries. The5,000 square foot certified clean room has the latest technology,ensuring proper controlling of temperature, humidity, andcontamination with monthly documented charted recordings.Employees working in the clean room undergo strict GoodManufacturing Practices (GMP) training which includescontamination control and proper gowning procedures.

“We recognize the critical importance of manufacturing disciplinein healthcare and medical device operations. Given the highlyregulated environment in which our customers operate, it isimperative that the company remains devoted to a continuousimprovement strategy as well as an interest to meet or exceed thesterile medical packaging requirements within the markets wesupply,” said Jim O’Dierno, Executive Vice President of Sales.

As a progressive approach to the demands of the markets, Prenthas also added 2,500 square feet of clean room space designed forrapid expansion on short notice. The tightly controlledenvironments will allow Prent to not only accommodate existing

customer needs but also to explore secondary operation project assembly and fulfillment opportunities.

Some post-thermoforming clean room operations will includesealing, punching holes, RF welding, pad printing, precisionflange trim, large sample runs (vacuum form equipment), hotstamp, and final assembly. Carefully monitoring and regulatingsecondary clean room operations will streamline productionefforts and increase project efficiencies.

“Whether it is post-thermoforming operations, project assemblyor fulfillment, we have specifically designed our manufacturingoperations for flexibility. Scalable manufacturing allows us to beable to adapt quickly to changes while maintaining strongpartnerships with our customers,” said Mitch Benson, Senior VicePresident of Manufacturing Services.

Prent Puerto Rico is home to a new P34 Deep Draw production linethermoformer. At a maximum eight inch (8”) draw, this new thermoformmachine allows for unparalleled specialization and customization forpackaging customers. Prent’s vertical integration presents cost competitiveadvantages by offering shorter build lead-times, seamless tool transfers, andin-house technical engineering support. As a single source managing theproduction and distribution process, Prent Puerto Rico can optimizeresources and avoid wasted cost. It is this personalized customer experiencethat continually showcases Prent’s commitment to their customers.

Cyber-threats, disasters, and emergencies do not discriminatebetween organizations. As technology develops and transforms, abusiness must continually assess their infrastructure in an effort tomitigate risk and protect their assets.

During a recent risk assessment of their IT infrastructure, the PrentIT team recognized additional ways to strengthen network securityand ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster or threat.Components were identified that could gain productivity, increaseorganizational efficiencies, and protect the business fromvulnerabilities.

“Like any organization, we recognize that we are vulnerable tointernal and external data security risks. We have investedsignificant resources focused on implementing security controls andprotecting our intellectual property and internal data,” said SteveZimmerman, Chief Information Officer at Prent. “Company traininghas been implemented in support of this initiative, helpingemployees identify phishing emails and related exploits, andstopping them before infecting our systems.”

A new advanced endpoint protection technology has beenseamlessly integrated into Prent’s network. Coupled with aninternal security awareness campaign, this enhanced technology willaid in safeguarding exploitation of Prent’s systems and network.

IT enhancements include a more robust disaster recovery processwith real-time one-to-one server replication and high efficiencypower supplies. Reducing the number of servers throughvirtualization is just one example of Prent’s continued commitmentto sustainability. The company has also upgraded to Microsoft’sSkype for Business. This new software fosters better collaborationinternally and externally, allowing voice, video and screen sharingcapabilities.

When you consider the amount of time anemployee spends at work, the importance ofsafety training in the workplace cannot beoverstated. Implementing an effective safetyprogram includes creating a team ofindividuals who will engage in the safetyprocess, and create a sense of cohesiveness thatcan only come through teamwork. PrentMalaysia has implemented an internalEmergency Response Team, recruiting 22employee volunteers to commit to leading thesafety initiatives. The Emergency ResponseTeam received training provided by their localFire & Rescue Department and are nowequipped with the knowledge and skills torespond to emergencies.

Theteam enjoyed a visit to Huzhou,Zhejiang Province, witnessed thebeauty of Taihu Lake, and toured thefamous ancient town of Nanxun. Theannual event encourages effectivecommunication amongst employeesand the benefits of working togetheras a team.

Prent Malaysia strengthened their workforce during a recent recruitment exercise inKathmandu, Nepal. The recruitment proved to be successful as Prent Malaysiawelcomes 25 new Nepalese employees.
