INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE ON KINEANTHROPOMETRYISAK LEVEL 1 & 2–TSPBy International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry Vienna 2018 – ISAK 2 (November, 29 to 2 December (ISAK 1 30 to 2)

COURSE PROGRAM

ISAKLEVEL 1-2

Anthropometry is the area of science that measures the human body composition. As a result of changes in life styles, nutrition, activity levels and ethnic composition of populations, changes to the distribution of body dimensions are forever occurring.

Kinanthropometry is the interface between anatomy and movement. It takes the measurement of the human body and determines its capability for function and movement in a range of settings. Using standardised methods and measurements that produce valid results, allow people to compare measures in the local, national and international level.

The International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) embraces and regulates the practice of anthropometry at the international level establishing the International Anthropometric Accreditation Scheme (IAAS). The accreditation scheme is based on the concept of a four-level hierarchy. A key element in it is the objective maintenance of quality assurance by requiring that all levels have to meet initial technical error of measurement (TEM).

Level 1 is designed for the majority of ISAK-accredited anthropometrists who have little on-going requirement for more than the measurement of height, weight and skinfolds. A small number of girths and two bone breadths have also been included at this level to enable the monitoring of health and growth variables, and calculation of the somatotype all of which ISAK sees as valuable tools for the comparison of body size, shape and composition. Thus, a person who successfully completes Level 1 can demonstrate adequate precision in 2 base measures, 5 girths, 8 skinfolds and 2 breadths and has a basic understanding of the theory of anthropometric applications.

ISAK Level 1 is highly recommended for people involved in sport and health environments (nutritionist, sport scientists, coaches, S&C coaches, physicians…) pretending to know how to measure body’s composition using a standardised, valid and reliable method.

Level 2 Technician – Full Profile Anthropometrist

A person who can demonstrate adequate precision in all 42 anthropometric dimensions.

Accreditation

This person will be competent in the assessment of a Full Profile. The Full Profile consists of the following sites: 4 base measures, 8 skinfolds, 13 girths, 8 segment lengths, 9 breadths

ISAKLEVEL 1-2

Course aims § To know the different applications of kinanthropometry, in addition to the history,

evolution and development of kinanthropometry at national and international level.

§ To understand and learn by theory and practice sessions how to take valid, reliable and precise anthropometric measurements.

§ To develop the ability of measuring skinfolds, girths, somatotype (level 2 Full Profile) and calculating the technical error of measurement (TEM), being a requirement for scientific publications and essential for precise and valid measurements.

§ To comprehend the theory and practical applications of body density and body fat (%).

§ To promote collaborative science: try to start investigations and collaborate between professionals from the field of sport science and health in an attempt to produce studies.

§ To teach and certify novice kinanthropometrists.

Accreditation

In order to obtain the Level 1-2 international accreditation from ISAK, the students must:

- Assist to 100% of the lessons (theory and practice)

- Pass the practical exam (as anthropometrist and annotator).

- Take double measures of the 10 anthropometric variables from 3 models.

- Successfully complete 20 restricted profiles (repeat measures) on 20 subjects and send the document with the results to the instructor.

*After passing the exam and sending the document with the 20 restricted profiles, the official certificate (.pdf) will be sent to every student.
