ARE YOU PREPARED FOR FLEXIBILITY?

George Muir, LiveTiles Futurist, is predicting the rise of a new type of workforce, and a shift from people craving a ‘work / life’ balance to a ‘work / life’ blend. This change will be driven by the digitization of business, which includes working with robots and artificial intelligence.

Constant connectivity and the automation of some tasks will give employees the upper hand, creating a demand for specific skills and talents. With more time, there will be greater flexibility for employees to choose how they work and who they work for (the Uberization of work).

To maintain growth, retain talent and meet demand, successful enterprises will need to address how they will create an environment where staff are engaged with the flexibility that will become commonplace.

AI technology has the potential to address many of the challenges facing the future workplace, where enterprises must weigh up how they provide flexibility without sacrificing productivity. With the ability to automate mundane tasks, analyze data quickly and find information more efficiently, AI technology can significantly boost productivity and release the talents of your people.

A BOT FOR EVERYONE?

We’ve seen how AI operates in our personal lives (think Siri, Google and Amazon’s Alexa), but the workplace can be more complicated than Google searches and reminders. The flexible, intelligent workplace will be powered by AI technology that is engaging and fulfills the complex needs of a variety of roles.

For the same reason LiveTiles allows businesses to build digital workplaces that integrate the resources and applications they use, AI in the workplace is not about finding the one ‘chat bot’ solution for all employees, but multiple and even individual AI assistants that are truly ‘your’ assistant.

This isn’t about pitting man v machine, but integrating effective and intelligent software that can eliminate mundane tasks that erode productivity, engagement, performance and increase time spent on revenue raising tasks.

AI assistants can be the ultimate companion, potentially doubling (or more) productivity, reducing errors and allowing humans to work on higher value tasks by automating time consuming, manual work. The potential is enormous and the case for individual AI assistants for every single employee is compelling.

We know that no two human beings are the same. Employees usually interact with vastly different digital resources, information systems and workflows from each other depending on their role. There’s no one size fits all in the workplace and any AI built to complete tasks for a range of employees will ultimately be useless to all of them.

To that end, the only effective way to deliver an AI assistant that truly ‘assists’ is to have your own. The concept is now a reality, a virtual assistant programmed only with the knowledge and resources that you need. It is shaped to your role, with assigned unique abilities specific to how you operate. It’s truly your personal assistant.

AI assistants were initially implemented to help out with meeting requests, search and reminders. It’s now so much more than that, with the ability to assign tasks, integrate with resources and applications, and even learn. Very soon no business will operate without AI and it’s no longer a question of what AI assistant should I integrate, but how many. The answer is: as many as you need.

CREATE A HIVE OF INTELLIGENCE

Data is the new oil, according to LiveTiles partner AI Australia. We spoke to Peter O’Gorman, Director, and Cody Middlebrook, Head of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, about the potential of AI technology in the workplace.

“We’re trying to replicate the human brain and how the human brain thinks in a tech stack,” Peter said.

“It’s about creating a hive of intelligence inside of an organization. We’ve got these decentralized minds but with AI when one-person experiences something, the rest of the hive experiences and learns something.”

With the data in your Office 365 platform, you are sitting on a mountain of value and information that can be harnessed by AI technology.

“There’s a huge amount of data just in your emails and even your calendar,” Peter said.

“There’s a massive opportunity for AI and LiveTiles Bot Builder to hit those data sources to help people get through their days, to be a bit more predictive with their calendar, to help people intelligently get through their emails which we’re all struggling with.”

As people become more in tune with the power of data and learn how to mine it, AI technology will soon become a consistent function in the workplace with the potential to automate things like answering common questions, making emails more efficient and automating calendar management.

For the health industry in particular--where there is an expected 44% growth in AI usage predicted from 2017 to 2020--the potential is already beginning to be realized.

“Misdiagnosis is huge,” Cody said. “Machines will be able to correct this and I believe that clinicians will focus more on data in the future and become more of a data scientist. They’re already heading that way now.”

AI technology can allow enterprises to harness their data, streamline processes and automate things like HR onboarding, Q&As, IT password resets or inventory management.

LIVETILES BOTS

With a track record of delivering engaging enterprise solutions, LiveTiles Bots is an exciting addition to the product suite of no code (or low code) intelligent workplace offerings.

LiveTiles Bots is a no code bot builder, powered by a user engagement philosophy that gives anyone the ability to create an AI tool based on their needs within the platforms they’ve already invested in.

“When people think of AI, they often think of the most complex thing that could beat the chess master,” Peter said.

“What LiveTiles does is simplify AI, to the point where we can now have a conversation with anyone in the workplace without having to talk about the technical details. We can bring it to the minds of everyday people.”

LiveTiles Bots can be built with ‘drag and drop’ technology and deployed within any Office 365 environment. Assign abilities, give it a name, design its appearance and let it use your data to automate a number of time consuming tasks.

“As a tool, it’s a genius idea. A codeless bot builder,” Cody said. “There are bots out there, but they’re off the shelf and designed to do specific things. The advantage LiveTiles provides is the ability to build the AI assistant you want.”
