Using Movie MakerTo Produce a
Teaching or Learning ResourceTHE GROUP DISCUSSION EXERCISE
Aim: To produce a video of a groupdiscussion and to enhance the videousing graphics, photos and music.
1. Preparation1.1 Select a topic for discussion e.g.How can we improve the functionalityof our computer laboratory? and
identify the members of the discussiongroup 3 to 4.1.2 Develop a storyboard for yourvideo illustrating: Images/slides e.g.Title slide with discussion question,group members names, use a photo ofthe group, consider camera positions,introduction narration, who will ask andrespond to the question/s, etc.,contents of the end slide.

1.3 Rehearse the discussion aiming fora time limit of approximately 3 minutes.
2. Prepare video support resources2.1 Create a folder for storing the filesfor this video production (referred to asa collection).
SLIDES/IMAGES
2.2 Using PowerPoint develop a titleand end slides for the video.
2.3 Take a photo/s of the group, insertin a slide and overlay some text.
2.4 Save your PowerPointpresentation as .jpg images in theCollection folder

2.5 Go to Sounddogs.com, selectPRODUCTION MUSIC (left side of
screen), select a category and then asub-category and review samples andchoose your background clip. Notethat you will trim the clip to its requiredduration in MovieMaker.
2.6 Right click your music choice andsave to the Collection folder. Note thatthe file format will be .mp3 and needsto be converted to .wav format toimport into Movie Maker (this is also
the case for Camtasia).

2.8 Select PROJECT then IMPORTAUDIO and browse to and import yourSounddogs .mp3 clip

2.9 Select FILE then EXPORT ASWAV and save the .wav file version to
your Collections folder.
3. Import and edit video resourcesRefer to Section 3 in the ComputerLaboratory exercise and in addition tothose steps:
3.1 Play your video and click and dragyour image clips to increase or reducethe time they appear in your videoe.g. is their sufficient time to read the
images text
SAVE YOUR PROJECT
3.2 Select IMPORT AUDIO OR MUSIC
and import your .wav music file anddrag and drop the file onto theAUDIO/MUSIC timeline.
3.3 Drag the music file until it isadjacent to the image clips at the
beginning of the video. Click the music
