HEADTEACHER’S BLOG Thursday 26th June 6pm
I’m about to attend the Year 7 Awards Evening, which is always a pleasure and a privilege. The whole of Year 7 has settled in very well, and there are reasons to recognise the achievements of every student in the Year. Given this, in some ways it seems wrong to single out around a third of them for special commendation at our evening ceremony, but after much debate we decided that children do understand that not everyone can win prizes every year, and that the fear of not recognising everyone who deserves it should not stop us from identifying and praising those who have particularly excelled this year. We also think it’s important that we invite parents to join us in recognising the child’s achievement, and this is the factor that limits the number of students we can recognise at the evening. The fire regulations for the hall specify its capacity. It’s a wonderful evening for those who are there, and I hope that those who are not don’t see not being present as a negative comment on them. It really isn’t.
The end of term is rapidly approaching, and this will be our last Newsletter of the academic year. Thank you for your support for your children and for their school in 13-14. Everyone here is looking forward to working with you once again in September (after we’ve all had a bit of a rest!).

‘How to’ week
Year 12 spent a week preparing for the future. Firstly, they learnt how to look after their money including tax, budgeting and the risks associated with borrowing. On the second day they took part in a Business Masterclass run by Young Enterprise and judged by members of Kelvedon Rotary Club. “How To Apply for a Job Day” included a talk on what employers are looking for given by Steve Ewers from TJ Evers, mock interviews conducted by representatives from Wilkins, Voice Communications, McDonalds, Quality Solicitors, and Kelvedon Rotary; and an explanation of Apprenticeships. Finally we looked at how to apply to university and enjoyed a Personal Statement workshop run by Anglia University. Ms Failey

RACE FOR LIFE
On Monday the 23rd June we had a cake sale to raise money for the Race for Life. We made £50.71 by selling handmade cupcakes.
We decided to join in with Race for Life because it’s very close to our hearts because we have both witnessed the effects that cancer can have on families and friends.
We will be running the race on the 6th July in Hylands Park at 10.30, and are hoping to have raised a lot which will help with cancer research and find a cure. Charlotte Kent & Daisy Greenwood
Last day of term will be an Olympic Theme Day. School
will close early at 2.00pm.
LOST PROPERTY
All lost property will be on display in the Dining Hall on the 3rd July during break time 10.30 - 10.50 am. All parents and students are welcome to come along and any items not claimed will then be disposed of.
