Needless to say, the audience was left impressed. So, are you unsure about the difference between a solicitor and a barrister? What about a legal executive and a legal secretary? Well, we can now explain, as all was made clear in a very informative presentation. Equally, the routes which could lead to a career in this very competitive sector were explained in detail, including the in-house routes offered by Bott + Co. Whether students are considering a degree or an apprenticeship, they are now equipped with the facts to help them make this choice. Also, interestingly, there are three times the number of employees at Bott + Co. working in IT as there are solicitors, not to mention a large number of customer service and administrative roles too: lots of opportunity for all. Hampers of Hope began in October 2011, by founder Cristel Berridge, as a Christmas project collecting non-perishable food items to make Christmas food

parcels for local people and families (50% of whom were children) who were struggling to put food on the table.

Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals and organisations, hundreds of lives were touched in our local towns and villages and we were able to distribute

over 100 food parcels. The demand for emergency food support locally was so evident that we could not stop after Christmas. This was the start of Hampers of Hope as an independent

Christian charity.

Over the years we have continued to grow, and in December 2016 we provided 400 Christmas food hampers, a number we expect to increase year on year.

Hampers for Hope is Wilmslow High School’s Christmas Charity 2017.

CAN YOU HELP?

Please bring all food items to school before 18th December 2017 to the Wellbeing Hub.

Feast on books this Christmas! When the wind is blowing and the sleet or rain is driving against the dark windows, I love to sit by the fire, thinking of what I have read in books of voyage and travel.Charles Dickens - The Long Voyage

With short days and long, chilly nights, there’s no better time to cosy up with a good book. In school, a reading book is a part of every student’s essential equipment and we encourage reading for an average of thirty minutes daily both for pleasure and to ensure continued development of essential reading skills. The Christmas holidays offer plenty of opportunities to maintain this habit by escaping all of the television and tantrums, the relatives and the revision to get lost in a fantastic story.

Our Learning Resource CentreWe are lucky enough to have a well-stocked LRC in school with plenty of choice in both young adult and senior fiction. Students are welcome to borrow up to four books at a time for a period of three weeks. To search our library catalogue, students can log in using their G-number as both their username and password on Firefly (Resources>Wider Curriculum>Reading School>LRC).

What to Read NextSometimes a little inspiration is needed when selecting your next read. The English team have collated some of their favourites in our Top 50 Reads lists. Both lists are organised in by level of challenge and the KS3 list includes AR book levels to help year 7 and 8 students make their choices. These lists can be found in the back of student planners and in the Reading School area of FireFly. Miss Benson’s reviews of the KS3 titles can be found at :http://wilmslowhigh.fireflycloud.net/reading-school/top-50-reads-reviewed

somebody turns on the set, I go into the other

room and read a book.”Groucho Marx

Oakmere Care Home performanceOn Monday 4th December a group of Wilmslow High School musicians visited Oakmere Care Home to perform to the residents there.

The afternoon concert included traditional carols performed by the brass ensemble, a cello solo and a number of popular songs and songs from musicals, performed by our talented vocalists. The residents were really impressed with the students' talent and have invited us back next year!

Hearing-Impaired Resource Base – Primary & Secondary LinkOn the 7th December, 8 students from Lindow Primary HI-resource base came to visit the school as part of the ongoing transition programme between the two resource bases.

The primary students had the chance to speak to current Year 7 and 8s and ask questions on life at the high school whilst decorating some festive biscuits.

Afterwards all student enjoyed eating the fruits of their labour.

Harefield Christmas MarketHarefield ‘Attacked the day’ on Friday 1st December when we proudly hosted our 5th Annual Charity Christmas Market.

Students and staff came together to sell a wide variety of goodies in a bid to raise money for Alder Hey and The Christie Hospital.Tutor groups decorated their stalls in the theme of Christmas and festive hats and jumpers were plentiful, especially Mr Bebbington who looked every inch of a Christmas tree, courtesy of Miss Gregory.

The school community supported this worthy event during break and lunchtime

and a staggering £931.50 was raised.

A massive thank you for everyone’s hard work, commitment and dedication.
