40th Annual

4-H BBQ Sunday, October 16, 2016

Sperber Arena Fairgrounds Noon till 5pm

The annual 4 -H BBQ has become a

county fixture. Its success depends on

the members who sell their tickets & work

to serve the food, the leaders who help

prepare the food & organize distribution, the parents (and general public) who support

their children when they buy the tickets. M r . B o S h r o p s h i r e has headed this

endeavor for many, many years & deserves our heartfelt thanks! The profit from this

event pays for training , awards, camps, scholarships, project materials, etc.

IT IS EACH 4-H PERSON’S RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP WITH THIS FUNDRAISER!

All members should sell their tickets as soon as possible (ask for more if you can!)

Community Leaders have all received tickets for distribution at the local clubs. Don’t

forget the youth member who sells the most tickets* will win an iPad!

ALL-STAR CORNER September was such an eventful month for the All-Stars!

This was officially the start of the new 4-H year and our

All-Star year. We were able to plan and host two super

fun events this month. The first was 4-H Officer Training,

which was a great success! We met amazing club officers

all throughout Imperial County. Those who attended

gained new leadership skills and a new insight on their

officer positions. We also learned about parliamentary

procedures with a fun game of Jeopardy! Our second

event during the month of September was BBQ posters.

4-H members all throughout the valley created posters

advertising the 4-H Barbeque. We received a lot of

fantastic and amazing posters that we put up throughout

Imperial Valley. This month was so much fun, and we

can’t wait to see what’s coming up next!

Calipatria FFA will have some quality lambs, goats, and definitely pigs for sale from our Calipatria FFA Chapter. These are all animals 100% raised and bred by my kids. Our goal is to sell them very reasonably for the kids who don't have the means to buy more expensive animals. Our pigs will be based between $200 and $250 depending on the number we have (we bred 4 sows specifically for our county fair). Last year my kids raised their own and they all placed in the top 6 of each class. We will have 3 lambs available priced between $175 and $200,

along with multiple goats around the same price. The lambs and goats are good, quality, gold ribbon animals that, if fed well, should be middle of the class type animals or better. The pigs I have bigger hopes for because we went all out on the genetics to get some quality babies in. Also we are hoping if all goes well to have a raffle of one of each species goat, lamb and pig.
