Inter-[weave] \ˌin-tər-ˈwēv\ interlace by or as if by weaving; syn: AXIAL PAPER FOLDINGI was able to investigate axis as an architectural principle through iterations of folding a continuous strip of paper. The paper, manipulated but never sliced, evolves into two forms that are connected by a linear strand. A skeletal form propagates from the strand, folds upon itself and weaves back into the ground plane. The juxtaposing ribbon-like form weaves into a loose knot that provided spatial enclosure. Below, the paper fold project is interpreted as a public pavilion.

Inter-[act] \ in-ter-akt\ 1. to act on or come in close relationship with each other, syn: RELIGARE INSTITUTE
This urban health and welness center uses steel innovatively to reconnect the mind and body. The structural steel “spine” supports and connects the institute’s nine floors, and also programmatically transcends people from social order to nature. In addition, the brise soleil louvres, paired with the glazed curtain walls, control natural lighting and temperature. Located on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, this retreat acts as a haven from a production-driven, fast-paced society. Furthermore, it visually exposes the city to an active community.

Inter-[play] \in-ter-pla\ 1. reciprocal relationship, action, or
influence, syn: CONCRETE DESIGN BUILD
The concrete design build competition challenged students to use concrete masonry blocks innovatively by designing an abstract structure on campus. Our goal was to create a tectonic form that united structure and construction of masonry blocks. The structure becomes poetically manifested through the narrative story of a competitor, thus creating a dynamic dialog between the user, form, and space.

DISTRICT SITE AERIAL
Toledo, Ohio, a mid-size city in the Midwest, is among many shrinking cities in the nation. The East Toledo Riverfront district extends the intersecting city grids into a wedge-like urban tissue, thus generating a kinetic pedestrian flow across the Maumee river. This proposed district will encourage an active lifestyle with its connective footbridges, green space and walking/biking paths.

The light voxel dwellings control light admittance through operable porthole openings. Furthermore, the dwellings and con-ference center respond to sunlight/temperature through the application of thermochromatic laminated glazing (TLG) technology.

The Fort Worth Center for the Arts project required renovating the existing communi-ty theater, as well as building a black box theater, 800 seat proscenium, arts gallery, as well as support spaces for performance and visual arts. The new community cen-ter metaphysically captures the poetic gesture of a sound wave. The most dynamic moments of interaction for both visitor and performer occur within the monolithic, tectonic drums’ interspaces. These interspaces unite the subterranean program with the landscape, thus providing the community with “a park of sound.”

syn: BUENOS AIRES CENTRO VERDE SOCIAL CLUB. Connecting the dominant urban actors in terms of social, cultural, educational, and athletic realms, this project aims to provide a more integrated platform for the design of Centros Verdes within Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Centro Verde responds to the need for a formal waste management system, as well as a need for social activism/ecological awareness. Forging a dialogue between the neighborhoods and the issue of recycling, there is an opportunity to maximize the infl uence and acceptance of the Centro Verde program within individual communities throughout the city.

Inter-[mediate] \in-tar-’me-de-at\ 1. Lying or occurring between two extremes or in a middle position or state: syn: R[E]PARIAN Park Located in Houston, Texas this Gensler internship project is a development proposal which reignites the microcosm of the bayou and the riparian zone, and introduces a wetland environment to directly restore and improve the Buffalo Bayou. R[E]PARIAN Park is the intermediate actor between the abandoned water treatment plant and the polluted bayou river. It establishes a more natural bayou and a refuge for wildlife, all while establishing a place for education and exploration.
