    Mechanism and Dummy Positioner

    Performance and accuracy improvements

New developments in the kinematic solver lead to important performance improvements especially for following features:

    • Better move to target/translate/rotate functionality with large number of bodies and joints, for example when a dummy is linked to a seat mechanism

    • Better performances and accuracy approaching joint limits

    • Quicker positioning of dummy using global translation/rotations

    • Faster convergence to the best solution when target cannot be achieved by the kinematic system

    • Interactive moves are more efficient and smoother

Support of mechanism and dummy in *INCLUDE_TRANSFORM

In LS-DYNA profile, a mechanism and/or a dummy model can now be defined in a *INCLUDE_TRANSFORM card.

    HyperMesh Debug Mode

HyperMesh has implemented a crash dump mechanism that is available only on Linux platforms with the HyperWorks 14.0.130 release. Under certain conditions and subject to some limitations, this mechanism provides a means for customers to send information related to a HyperMesh crash to Altair, without having to share the model files.

The steps below describe how to use this crash dump mechanism:

    1. Set the HM_CRASH_REPORTS environment variable to None/Normal/Full. The library can only provide stack-only crash dumps. The Full parameter is ignored and taken as Normal. For the stack crash dump, setting the environment variable is all there is to do. For the full crash dumps there is a different procedure as noted below.

    2. The crash dump here will have a GUID-like (Globally Unique Identifer) name and a .DMP

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 7

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

extension. It will be placed in the TEMP folder, which in Linux usually is “/tmp”.

    3. The Full dump will also contain all the memory associated with the application. It will be quite big, but it contains a lot of information that would be useful for developers. If a full core dump is required then there are two more commands that need to be invoked from a shell (the second one needs administrative privileges).

    a. ulimit –c unlimited b. echo '/tmp/core_%e.%p' > /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

When the system crashes it will produce the crash dump in the /tmp folder here too.

Note: Crash dumps (especially Full dumps) can use a lot of disk space. Insufficient disk space can bring down the system, so please be sure to check with your local system administrator to ensure that you have enough disk space before enabling crash dumps.

    Miscellaneous Enhancements

    • Ability to deselect a face selection using face angle.

    • User can rename an entity in the Model browser using F2 keyboard shortcut key.

    • Curve entity can be created directly using Model browser context menu.

    Resolved Issues

    • Performance issue related to import of HyperMesh files with empty assemblies.

    • Updating thickness value in the component view resets the Undo-Redo history.

    • Incorrect message when you delete an empty component after organizing all the entities out of it.

    • Changing element configuration organizes the element from a non-current to a current include.

    • Message related to renumbering that shows the entity count along with the range of renumbered IDs.

    • Creating a new view from the Model browser after deleting an existing one was not working correctly in some cases.

    Connectors

    Connector Browser

A Query Builder has been added to both parts of the Connector browser. The Query Builder filters the link and connector lists dependent on their attributes. The value next to each folder describes the number of returned filtered entities along with the total number of entities of that type.

When performing a show, isolate or find operation, the link entity list and the connector list can be dynamically filtered to return only what’s displayed. The last review filter can be reused and also combined with other attribute filters.

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 9

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

The connector symbol signals whether the connector is displayed or not. By clicking on the connector icon it will change from full (displayed) to light (masked).

    Projection Control Methods

For area connectors, the projection control method can be defined via the Connector Entity Editor. This new option enables more precise control over how the projection is handled. With these controls the realization of adhesive beads is significantly improved.

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 10

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

    Enhancements

    • The API *CE_Cleanup removes all data from the connector. Only the tolerance and the link information is kept.

    • The realization hexa (RBE2-RBE3) is fully supported in OptiStruct and Nastran. This includes spot, seam and area realization and their absorption.

    • An enhanced approach for solid absorption has been added. With this option, adhesives with several layers and adhesives with rounded corners can be identified. Preselection of elements is required which should represent the adhesives.

    Resolved Issues

    • The Connector Combine functionality allows combining any selection of point and line connectors. The issue of creating looped connectors in certain situation is resolved.

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 11

    HyperMorph

Map to Geom - Extend Edges

For the options "map to surfaces" and "map to elements" there is now a checkbox labeled "extend edges." When checked, this option will map any nodes which would have fallen outside the surfaces or elements to points perpendicular to the edges of the surfaces or elements, allowing the user to map nodes, elements, mvol edges, or mvol faces beyond the edges and inside holes. The same option is available in the Freehand panel under "move nodes" for the "move to surface" and "move to mesh" options.

Map to Geom - Offset Direction

For the options "map to line," "map to node list," "map to plane," "map to surfaces," "map to elements," and "map to equation," there is now a toggle underneath the "offset = " field which allows you to select between "offset along proj." and "offset in all dir." For the former, any offset will be measured along the direction a node is being projected to the target. For the latter, any offset will be measured from the nearest point on the target. The same option is available in the Freehand panel under "move nodes" for the "move to vector," "move to node list," "move to line," "move to

    HyperView

    Highlights

Highlights of this release include an option to display mid-side node results, new Parts View to display CAE part structure/hierarchy information available in the model file, and some general enhancements and bug fixes. Please read below for more details.

    Show Mid-Side Node Results

A new option to show results on mid-side nodes on 2nd order elements is introduced. This option, in the form of a checkbox in the Contour, Iso and Tensor panels, controls what HyperView will do in case of mid-side nodes. For example, if the result file has 2nd order elements without results on the mid-side nodes, turning this checkbox ON and contouring will result in HyperView calculating results on the mid-side nodes and displaying it. If the checkbox is OFF, HyperView will not show any results on mid-side nodes. Please note that this option is available even when the result file contains mid-side node results. Refer to user’s guide for more details.

    Parts View in Results Browser

A new Parts view in the Results browser is introduced. This view displays the CAE part structure/hierarchy information that is typically present in the model file as metadata. The top half of the view displays the model hierarchy and some part attributes and the bottom half of the view

    HyperGraph

    Highlights

Unit scaling for RADIOSS T01 files supports now the Unit Profile dialog, similar to LS-DYNA result files. For multiple interfaces the readers have been updated to support new result types and a new DATX reader has been added. The performance for large tables in TableView has been significantly improved.

    Unit Scaling

The Unit Profile dialog will always be displayed while reading Dyna files when Unit Scaling is turned on.

RADIOSS T01 files are also supported with units when Unit Scaling is turned on. You will have to identify the unit system in the Units Profile dialog.

Unit scaling can be disabled permanently via the preference file in a manner in which it cannot be re-enabled graphically.

    PCH Reader

To improve customization, the PCH file reader has been updated to extract the subcase ID list similar to the subcase ID list provided by the animation result reader. In addition, the support for acoustic velocity and pressure results have also been added.

    Templex Licensing

The Templex unit draw is reduced from 6 units to 0 units. However, it will still check for availability of a license.

    PamCrash Support

ERF support for PamCrash 2015 has been added. In addition, the channel information (Types, Requests and Components) in the Build Plots panel will be grouped to allow a quicker channel

selection. HyperGraph is now able to read gzipped THP.gz files.

    New DATX Reader

A new reader to read curves from DSPCon DATX files has been added.

    Curve Export Improvements

The export of curves assigned to axes scaled with db10 or db20 now provides the option to export either the original curve values or the scaled curve values displayed on the axis.

    Filter Enhancements

Support of CFC 600 and CFC 1000 has been added to the ISO 6487 filter function.

    TableView

The performance in TableView for larger tables has been significantly improved. This effects sessions and reports when conditional formatting was used on many cells with multiple rules. In addition, range syntax support for conditional formatting rules has been introduced.

    Vehicle Safety Tools

In the Vehicle Safety Tools menu, Pedestrian Impact and FMVSS201_ECE-R21 will be exposed only when Unit Scaling is turned on. The reason for this change is that all the HIC calculations are now automatically scaled instead of using a manual approach.

    Resolved Issues

    • The time channel handling for ISO test files using report templates has been improved.

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 19

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

The manual editing of the report templates is no longer required.

    • Some report template crashes that were associated with the introduction of unit master measures for MediaView in 14.0.110 have been fixed.

    • A PSD function bug which incorrectly scaled amplitudes has been corrected.

    • In the previous 14.0 versions of MediaView, multiple notes couldn’t be accessed and they were repositioned while loading report templates or session files. This issue has been fixed.

    • For some report templates, the manual scaling of curves using scale factors in math expressions after applying the report template were causing HyperGraph to freeze. This issue was LINUX specific and has been resolved.

    • The labeling of Y-components for Non Structural Displacement reading OS PCH files has been different in previous 14.0.xxx versions (FX, FY, …) compared to 13.0 (X-Trans, Y-Trans, ….). In this release, the 13.0 labeling has been reinstated. The sessions and reports created in previous 14.0.xxx versions will be supported.

    • If cells in the TableView client of 14.0.110/120 contain complex Templex math expressions, it was noticed that after saving and reimporting a session file, some cell values were missing. This issue has been resolved.

    • Copying and pasting of curves on LINUX either in the plot browser or the define curves panel could fail if the plot contains datum lines. This issue existed since 13.0 and has been fixed.

    • Reading PCH files containing eigenvalues from OptiStruct 14.0.210 crashed the PCH reader in HG14.0.110/120. This behavior no longer occurs.

    • HyperGraph 14.0.130 will read the imaginary part of modal participation data from Nastran generated PCH files correctly. This bug appeared in previous 14.0 versions only if the file contained line numbers.

    • Reading Dyna smp nodout files failed because of format changes in the nodout file. These changes are supported by the modified nodout reader.

    • The Tcl API "datafilehandle SetReaderTargetVersion " which failed since HyperGraph 14.0 will now work as expected.

    • A very rare plot rendering issue which resulted in minor differences between the graphical displayed curve values and the values displayed in notes or coordinate info panel has been fixed.

    • For HyperGraph plot macros, the missing scroll bars have been added to the curve parameter "Select Curves" window.

    • In very rare occasions, the lininterp function created some outliers for cross plots based on math expressions. This issue has been fixed.

    • Reading deforc from DYNA binout files no longer shows force instead of moment as the Y component label for torsional entities.

    • For OptiStruct optimizations, frequencies can now be read from .out files. Previously, this was only possible for normal modes analysis results.

    • On Linux, using the scrollbars in the Type, Request and Component pop-up selection GUI closed the GUI. The scrollbars now work as intended.

    HyperStudy

    Highlights

The features of HyperStudy 14.0.130 are focused on more efficient and effective design exploration. Highlights include substantial improvements to the DOE methods, superior versions of a popular optimizer, and the freedom to customize the environment.

    Displayed Tab and User Profiles

The user environment can be customized to show a subset of all available tabs. Individual tabs can be turned on or off and several pre-defined profiles are defined out of the box. Now you can set the interface to only see the tabs you frequently use.

    New DOE Methold MELS

Modified Extensible Lattice Sequence is a new space filling method for design of experiments. Extensibility means it can be used to add runs to an existing DOE. This should encourage an incremental approach to DOE because additional runs can be added if the initial set is determined to be insufficient.

    Fractional Factorial DOE Redesign

Fractional Factorial design of experiments has been re-formulated to be based on the desired user resolution. Instead of picking a design matrix, the user now inputs the resolution and a run matrix is automatically generated to match the problem. This more logical workflow will improve usability and increase confidence in DOE results.

    ARSM Optimization Enhancements

The ARSM optimizer can take advantage of multi-execute. Furthermore, the iteration histories of ARSM are redefined to be more consistent with the rest of HyperStudy. These optional features improve the usability of ARSM and make it work more efficiently on modern computing systems.

    Parallel Coordinate Plot Filters

The parallel coordinate plot is enhanced to support multiple data filtering windows. Filters can be drawn on the plot or controlled with precision via direct input tables. This tool makes understanding trends in complex data sets a much easier task.

    Model Resources

Models which depend on multiple files can now be explicitly defined. Static references to files on disk or dynamic links to solver results can be created. This improves portability of complex models and introduced the ability to link models based on the output file of one model as an input to another model.

    ANSYS Interface

    Highlights

In this release, ANSYS interface sees two significant enhancements in model set up process.

    • Defining and importing contact surfaces for ANSYS models is completely changed.

    • Part replacement is now available in ANSYS interface.

Contact Surface Setup in ANSYS Interface

In ANSYS, solver contact surfaces are identified as elements overlaid on the faces of solid or shell elements that represent the geometry of the FE model. Prior to this release, HyperMesh followed the same principle as the solver to provide interface with ANSYS. Hence both CONTACT (defined as master in HyperMesh) and TARGET (defined as slave in HyperMesh) regions were elements over FE model that represent the geometry of the model.

This has been changed. Now these contact regions are no longer a set of elements in HyperMesh. Both contact and target regions are identified as CONTACT SURFACES. A pair of contact and target surfaces that interact with each other in analysis are defined by CONTACT PAIR in HyperMesh. Users needs to create contact surfaces for both CONTACT and TARGET regions. Then they are paired together under “Contact Pair” to successfully define the contacts. In the contact pair, users will define the element type for the master and slave. During export to the ANSYS solver file (*.CDB file), these surfaces will be converted to contact elements of type defined in contact pair. ANSYS solver files with contacts are imported in HyperMesh, which then identifies the contact regions from the contact elements and shows those regions as contact surfaces. Each contact pair is listed in the table area of the Contact browser.

The image below highlights the differences in support of contact surfaces from previous to current releases:

With this new contact support in HyperMesh, users can create surface to surface, edge to edge, point to surface and rigid (pilot node) contacts. To create point to surface contacts “contact masses”

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 38

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

need to be defined for contact surfaces. Contact masses are node sets. To define rigid contacts with pilot node option users need to create a node set with single node in it. Options to create all these surfaces and node sets are available in the Contact browser.

The Contact browser can list, create and manage contact surfaces and pairs in HyperMesh. All components in the model, contact surfaces, contact properties, contact mass and pilot nodes are listed in the browser. The table lists and creates the contact pairs, or guides user to use the Auto Contact tool. The Entity Editor shows the details of the entity picked in browser or table. The Contact browser, table and Entity Editor has many options that can be accessed from the context sensitive menus. More information is available on online help about these options.

Options to create symmetry contacts is available via the context sensitive menu on eligible contact pairs. Using this option creates a replica of the selected contact pair but the master (contact) surface and slave (target) surfaces are swapped.

Using this new contact support, users can review, adjust and reverse the normals of the contacts of both surface to surface (3D) and edge to edge (2D) contacts.

Please refer to the online help for more information on how to create contact surfaces and contact pairs.

    Auto Contact

This release introduces the newer version of the Auto Contact tool. This tool creates surface to surface contact regions automatically using user inputs, including proximity distance or shell thickness option and maximum reverse angle. Access the Auto Contact tool by right-clicking in the Table area in the Contact browser. The Auto Contact tool now uses a newer contact detection procedure which is more accurate and faster than the earlier versions.

The following new options are available:

    • Vicinity tolerance distance or “Shell thickness option”.

    • Consolidation of the contact regions in one component to one contact surface using the

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 39

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

    Consolidate Contact Pairs option

    • Assign element types and properties – you can now choose to create ET types and properties automatically, or you can choose the existing property and ET type to attach to the contact pairs generated. If more than one pair are created by Auto Contact, then for next pair duplicate of ET type and property of first pair generated and attached to the subsequent contact pairs.

    • Penetration checks can be run to check for interferences between contact regions, before identifying them

    Known Limitations:

    • During import, any ANSYS model with contact elements that has contact and/or target elements not attached to their base geometry model elements, HyperMesh does not create contact surfaces from those contact/target elements. In these cases, you need to merge/equivalence the nodes that share contact / base elements and then run utility “Convert Legacy contacts” available in Utility page to create contact surfaces.

    • If there are contact/target elements in the model, and there are no base geometry elements, then during import the models' contact surfaces will not be created. However these elements are still imported as “elements”. On export those elements will also be exported and thus there is no data loss.

    • If there are loads and boundary conditions (such as point load or pressure load) applied on contact/target element, those loads are not supported and are not imported in HyperMesh.

    • During import/export, the contact/target element numbers are not retained.

    Part Replacement Tool

The Part Replacement tool is now available for ANSYS interface. This tool has been customized for

  • HyperWorks Desktop 14.0.130 Release Notes 40

    Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

    use with ANSYS.

    • Option of assigning Et type of source component to Et type of target component is available.

    • The option “Organize target component include to source component include” is removed as the ANSYS interface does not support the include feature.

    • If ANSYS SURF elements types –SURF152 and SURF154 are created on faces of solid elements, and the solid element component is replaced, then SURF152/SURF154 elements are updated to match the source component mesh.

    Post-Processing

Display Results at Middle Nodes of Second Order Elements

HyperView now has the option to display results at middle nodes of edges of second order elements.

This option is active for tensor results. An ANSYS results file does not have results at middle nodes of second order elements for tensors, but HyperView calculates it as the average of results at corner nodes. By default this option is on, but it can also be turned off.

    CAD Interfaces

    Highlights

    Updated CAD Version Support

The following CAD versions are newly supported:

    • CATIA V5-6R2016 (R26)

    • JT 10.2

    • Parasolid 28.1.194

    • SolidWorks 2016

    CATIA V6 Support

Support has been added for reading CATIA V6 2013x .3dxml, .3drep and .PLMBriefcase files. This includes geometry data as well as tessellations.

    Import NX Parameters

It is now possible to read parameters from NX into HyperMesh via the native reader. NX parameters are imported as HyperMesh parameter entities, with relevant types, values and expressions defined. Metadata is associated to the relevant geometric objects in HyperMesh, to indicate which parameters affect those objects. In addition, metadata is also created to indicate the full name of each parameter, as HyperMesh parameter entities are created from the NX parameter short name.

Changing the parameter values in HyperMesh does not update the geometry. It is up to the user to create any relevant dimensions or shape variables accordingly as needed. There is also not a live link with NX for making parameter updates and reading in the updated geometry. Such an implementation must be done by the customer.

To enable this behavior, the @ImportParameters and @ParametersPrefix options are available in the ug_reader.ini file.

SolidWorks Support for ExtAPI, cadassm and Part Browser

Support for SolidWorks has been added to ExtAPI, cadassm and Part Browser. This allows for BOM file generation via the Import BOM GUI, as well as representation management via Part Browser.

    UID Attribute Support

Support for populating the UID value via cadassm/Import BOM is now available. A user-defined attribute can be specified to map to the UID field within the relevant reader .ini file.

    Highlights

The Solver browser is updated and a new option to create Permas solver keywords cards from the Tools menu is introduced.

    Solver Browser

    • Similar to other solver interfaces, the Solver browser is updated. It now features an updated context menu, which allows easy creation of solver keywords. This menu is also available from the Tools menu.

    • The new Solver browser supports Create, Duplicate, Unused Empty, Delete, Card Edit, Rename, XRef Entities,Show, Hide, Isolate and Isolate options only from the context sensitive menu.

    Element Support

Supported the xreation/export import of the following elements:

    • CA1ZERF3

    • CA2ZERF1

    • CA2ZERF3

    Resolved Issues

    • Fixed the issue while using the Vectors option for orienting the Beam cross section, HyperMesh exports the components reference to the first node of the beam element. This results in incorrect interpretation by Permas and hence inaccurate results

    • Issue with export/import of spring changes from indirect assignment to direct assignment.

    • Fixed the issue related to loosing friction value during import.
