INTEGRATING NUMERICAL COMPUTATION
WITH SIMULATION IN RAPID ENGINEERING DESIGN
RAHMADYA TRIAS HANDAYANTO
UNIVERSITY OF ISLAMIC “45”
Why the research is done
• Current design paradigm is not only focus on computing
Why the research is done
• Design must also consider the aspects of beauty, safety, comfort and other elements of human nature.
Why the research is done
• Speed in design are required by the engineers.• There is a gap between numerical calculations
and simulations.

How to bridge ?
Which language is good enough for integrating numerical computation with simulation ?
• L. Saaty have been advised to use Analytic Hierarcy Process (AHP) for select the right decision.
• With Expert Choice 2000 I try to select well programming laguage between MATLAB, Visual Basic, Delphi and Fortan.
• To accelerate the selection process, the criterias that we use are taken from previous research by Gartner
RESULT• Matlab language has a score slightly above the
Visual Basic and Delphi. The lowest score is old programming language FORTRAN.

Conclusions• From the research we can be concluded as
follows:• Appropriate software for the integration of
numerical computing with simulation is MATLAB, followed by visual basic, Borland Delphi and Fortran
• Currently paradigm, the designer does not only see the results of the design are right or wrong, but should also knows it’s response by simulating results for other aspects (the beauty, comfort, speed of response and others human nature).
Advice
• The suggestions can be given are (for next research) :
• Should be included web-based software support in the selection criteria (at AHP) because of internet explotion.
• This research should be continued with integrating to other applications such as AutoCAD or CATIA.
Thank’s
