• Ongoing development of SRP and improvement initiatives

Page 13: Integrated Soldier Systems Branch › casg › Multimedia › OCT12_ISSB_staff_prese… · anti-materiel rifles, grenade launchers and anti-armour weapon fleets, including support

Medium Term Outlook• 2012 Budget = Medium to Long-Term fiscal constraint

– Reduction in order quantities and delays in planned procurements– Move towards a more ‘Just In Time’ like model and the need for

responsive industry partners– More procurements in smaller quantities to meet reduced budget

• General move towards long-term Standing Offers for families of equipment

• Implementation of the Land Systems Organisational Business Review and the impact on the SPO business

• Development of a Load Carriage Plan and a simplification of the Load Carriage fleet.– For example, SMSPO currently manages over 8 back packs, including 3

of similar size and function

What is Diggerworks?

Page 38: Integrated Soldier Systems Branch › casg › Multimedia › OCT12_ISSB_staff_prese… · anti-materiel rifles, grenade launchers and anti-armour weapon fleets, including support

Mission• Diggerworks is to identify options and deliver integrated

soldier combat systems solutions in order to enhance the capability of the combatant.

INTEGRATION

CONFIGURATION

Soldier Combat System (SCS)

Page 40: Integrated Soldier Systems Branch › casg › Multimedia › OCT12_ISSB_staff_prese… · anti-materiel rifles, grenade launchers and anti-armour weapon fleets, including support

Purpose• Development – Continually improve the Soldier Combat

System (SCS). Find solutions that enhance the performance of the soldier.

• Systems integration - The soldier is an integrated system, not an aggregation of individual components (remove the ‘Christmas tree’ effect).

• Configuration management - Army, through the Integrated Soldier Systems Development Directorate (Diggerworks), has informed control over the SCS.

• Modernisation - Develop the requirements of the future soldier systems within the context of Army's force modernisation objectives and Defence Capability Plans. Land 125 Phase 4.

Adaptive Acquisition

• No longer is everyone to be equipped the same:– Tier 1 – Specialists– Tier 2 – Close Combatants– Tier 3 – General Combatants

• The close combatant is to be treated differently.

• Buy less more often. System upgrades delivered in synch with Army’s force generation cycle.
