Clothing Definitions

• Combat ClothingThose uniforms, footwear and clothing accessories worn specifically for the conduct of combat operations

• Non-Combat ClothingThose uniforms, footwear and clothing accessories worn for the purpose of military duties other than the conduct of combat operations. It includes clothing of a military and non-military nature and personal protective clothing

• AccoutrementsItems worn to distinguish service, corps and trade, rank and special appointments. These items include Metal Insignia, Embroidered Insignia, Sashes, Lanyards and Aiguillettes. Accoutrements are worn with both combat and non-combat clothing

Standard Combat Uniform• Disruptive pattern shirt and pants:

• We are keen to build in manufacturing flexibility

What is Diggerworks?

Mission• Diggerworks is to identify options and deliver integrated

soldier combat systems solutions in order to enhance the capability of the combatant.

INTEGRATION

CONFIGURATION

Soldier Combat System (SCS)

Purpose• Development – Continually improve the Soldier Combat

System (SCS). Find solutions that enhance the performance of the soldier.

• Systems integration - The soldier is an integrated system, not an aggregation of individual components (remove the ‘Christmas tree’ effect).

• Configuration management - Army, through the Integrated Soldier Systems Development Directorate (Diggerworks), has informed control over the SCS.

• Modernisation - Develop the requirements of the future soldier systems within the context of Army's force modernisation objectives and Defence Capability Plans. Land 125 Phase 4.

• No longer is everyone to be equipped the same:– Tier 1 – Specialists– Tier 2 – Close Combatants– Tier 3 – General Combatants

• The close combatant is to be treated differently.

• Buy less more often. System upgrades delivered in synch with Army’s force generation cycle.
