INTRODUCTION IeC is a government programme aimed at
addressing energy access, poverty alleviation, job creation and
promote rural enterprise development
Government prioritized rural development to address
socio-economic conditions through Comprehensive Rural Development
Programme
IeC is One-stop energy shop that provides energy solutions to
communities
Success of IeC relies on solid partnership with the industry and
other stakeholders.

INTRODUCTION CONT
The IeC programme has been on a pilot or experimental basis and
13 IeCs have been established. Construction of 2 new projects have
been completed. 3 projects are in planning stage.
The IeC project focus on provision of liquid fuels and other
energy products to remote rural and township communities.

LEGISLATIVE MANDATE WHITE PAPER ON ENERGY POLICY: (increased
affordable energy services to disadvantaged communities,
stimulate economic development by creating investor friendly
climate, and securing energy supply by encouraging diversity of
energy supplies and energy carriers).
The DoE is finalizing a draft strategy which will serve as a
blue print to roll out the IeCs.
The strategy addresses issues of ownership, governance, funding
and sustainability of the IeCs.
