SPRING 2015 MUSIC ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES INTERMEDIATE GUITAR CLASS Already play the guitar and want to progress? This class is for you. We will play a variety of songs and styles including an intro to 12 bar blues and how the pentatonic scale is used as an improvisation tool. Bring manuscript paper, pencil, guitar, if electric bring your amp. Classes meet Saturdays, 3:00 to 3:45pm Place: Krieg Hall Room 304B Dates: March 21 May 9, 2015 Instructor: Janet Ogg Cost: $101 (includes registration fee) for the eight week class Through Wittenberg’s Center for Musical Development (CMD), children, teens and adults have access to expert instruction on a variety of instruments including: piano, organ, strings (including guitar and lute), wind instruments: flute, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, and all percussion instruments; voice, and Suzuki Violin. After taking music lessons in high school through CMD, I found myself very prepared to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. I would recommend CMD to anyone who wants to grow immensely in their musical artistry – whether it be a hobby or a career. Weekly lessons can be scheduled during the day, after school, evenings, or Saturdays. GROUP INSTRUCTION Group instruction is available for young children and adults to provide basic instruction, as well as musical enrichment opportunities. CMD offers need-based partial scholarships toward children’s lessons. Scholarships are awarded on an annual BASIS. CMD offers family scholarships for multiple lessons and classes in one family. Please apply each term: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. FOR ALL AGES: Voice Class

Students will have the opportunity to work on vocal skills with techniques for warming up, breathing, and diction. The class includes fun activities and games to aid in reading music, individual and group practice of exercises and songs. All ages are welcome.

2015 ClassesBeginning Piano for Elementary Age Students

Now is a great time to learn to play the piano. Students learn to read musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms in a small group setting at Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Please purchase Bastien Basic Piano Primer Book $6.95 (Pink book) for the class.

Students learn to read music, musical notation, rhythms, and vocabulary in the state -of-the-art piano lab. Lots of enjoyment guaranteed! Textbook for the class is “The Older Beginner Piano Course” WP 32 by James Bastien.

Learn how chords progress with a song and how to play properly pick a melody within the formula of the song. Learn how rhythm defines a style. We will discuss lyrics and poetry. This is a class for musicians who want to learn how to write songs.
