*Dish Scrubbies Materials Size K crochet hook Netting (2 yards makes 4 scrubbies) Instructions Fold netting to make it easier to cut and cut into strips 3 inches wide. Roll onto a pencil or pen. Chain 5, slip stitch to form ring. 2 SC in every stitch around until it is the desired diameter. SC in every stitch to form edge. SC every other stitch to decrease (spiraling into the center) Tie off and poke the rest of the netting inside.

*Variations-

Spiraling cotton- To add cotton thread in a spiraling around on one side of the scrubby begin in the middle with a single crochet, 2 half double crochet, double crochet following the spiral until the bottom of the scrubby and then decrease by crocheting 2 half double crochet, 1 single crochet. Put it in the corner of a dish rag- SC around the scrubby. 2 DC in one stitch followed by DC (one in each stitch) a third of the way around. 2 DC in the next stitch. Double crochet halfway through the remaining diameter. 2 DC in the next stitch. Chain one. 2 DC in the next stitch and then DC remaining diameter. Repeat this pattern until dishcloth is desired size. (Above example has 7 rows) The following pattern for face scrubbies also works well to use one side cotton and make one circle out of the netting and then put together.

*Easiest Ever Infinity Scarf by Lori Bennett Kramer Published in Lori Bennett Kramer's Ravelry Store

Suggested yarn: Lion Brand Homespun Yarn weight; Bulky / 12 ply About 3.5 oz. Gauge not important. Hook size: S (You can use a smaller needle, but scarf will be tighter) Blunt yarn needle for weaving in ends Scissors One size fits all Finished item measures 6” wide x 60” diameter

Pattern is for an open weave lightweight infinity scarf which takes about an hour to make. It is made with bulky (weight category 5) yarn, but could be made with worsted weight yarn as well. It is so easy the instructions are included below.

Abbreviations: Chain-ch Single crochet-sc Slip stitch-ss

Gauge is not important, but try to crochet loosely. The large S hook and crocheting loosely is what gives the scarf an open weave mesh look. (The sample shown in our booth was done with a Q hook.)

Pattern: Ch 10 (If using worsted weight yarn, ch 12 or amount needed for width desired.) Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across to end (9 sc), turn, (DO NOT ch 1) Row 2: sc in first sc and in each sc across to end (9 sc), turn (DO NOT ch 1) Repeat row 2 until scarf is 60” long, (DO NOT cut yarn) Place ends of scarf together right sides facing each other, ch 1 and ss ends together across to end. Tie off, cut yarn leaving enough tail to weave in. Weave in ends.

The bib can be purchased at a fabric store with the hem stitching already done (holes already punched around the outside edge). You can then crochet around edge using a fluffy yarn, crochet thread, or baby yarn using any stitch desired.

Note: If you make the bib yourself and don’t have a hemstitching machine, you can use a regular sewing

machine to make the holes. Use a Wing Needle, have machine threaded with matching thread and use a zig zag stitch. It doesn’t make as big of a hole to crochet into, but you can crochet in it).

Emergency Candle holder

Materials Wide mouth Mason jar Jar lid & ring 5 tall candles (¾ in. diameter pictured, but any size can work if the candle isn’t too tall for the jar.) Package of matches 1 in. PVC pipe cut to 1 in. height Hot glue gun & glue Cut PVC pipe with a saw 1.5 inches Glue to the underside of the jar lid with hot glue. Place the 5 candles in the jar with the matches. Screw on the lid and now you have emergency candles ready for use with an attached holder. *Variation: Insert one large candle instead and use the Mason jar as the holder.

*NO SEW BLANKETS (Children’s Friend, March 2016)

1. Place two pieces of fleece, each about 2 yards (or you can do smaller if you want a lap blanket) together

so the edges line up. Pin the two layers together. 2. Cut all four corners out by cutting a 4x4-inch square through both layers. 3. Cut the edges into 4-inch-long strips. The strips should be about 1 ¼ inches wide. 4. Tie the strips on the top layer of fleece to the strips on the bottom layer using double knots. 5. Tie the strips at the corners first, then tie the rest of the strips.

SEWING:

*Care Center donation: Reversible Adult Apron/Bib Fabric for yolk top: ---2 - linen/cotton napkins 18”x18” OR cotton blend fabric for yolk, 18” x 36”. These are approximate sizes and can be adjusted. ------Stitch ½” seam rather than 5/8” ---1 towel (makes 2 aprons) ---Before cutting, preshrink fabric and towel. ---Cut towel in half. Napkins: Cut 2 strips closely along hemmed edge, on opposite sides of both napkins. These will be the ties for the back. Turn a ¼” hem on one end of each strip. Discard 2 strips you will not use, or save for another apron.

For Fabric: Use same instructions, except cut the strips for ties, right sides together, stitch, leaving 1 end open and turn. Press.

If making the apron/bib reversible, place napkins right sides together and pin pattern to fabric, placing on fold where indicated. Cut according to pattern. Pin ties (1) on the inside of yolk where right sides are together, with frayed end on seam allowance. Stitch from side/bottom of yolk all around, leaving the bottom edge undone to turn inside out. Clip corners and around neck. Turn and press. Press 1/2” seam allowance on one side of the yolk bottom. Gather stitch across cut edge of towel, and fit into bottom of yolk, right sides together and pin. Stitch. Top stitch the pressed seam allowance on the other side.

*RICE HEATING PADS 1. Only use cotton fabrics as synthetics can get too hot in the microwave.

2. Cut two pieces of cloth in the size/shape you wish (allow for a ½” seam allowance).

3. Leave an inch or two open on one side so you can fill bag with rice.

4. Fill about ¾ full.

5. Sew opening by hand or machine.

6. Heat for 1 to 3 minutes in the microwave.

*Seek & Find Toy Create a fun seek and find quiet game. What is hidden inside may vary according to desire. Any

material may be used. The fleece is quick and easy because there is no need to turn inside out or worry about unfinished edges. The pictured example is as follows. All seams are ¼ inch. Cut 4 ½ in. square out of the middle of one piece of fleece. 2. Sew plastic square into fleece. 3. With wrong sides together, sew around 3 sides of the two fleece squares. 4. Fill bag with rice/beads and items. 5. Hole-punch item tag/list and put on fleece strip. 6. Sew across final side with both ends of the strip inside so the item tag/list will hang.
